Consider it by 2050? How gracious.Bush to G8: 'Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter'
After rejecting global climate-change targets, George Bush's parting shot to the G8 summit
By Andrew Grice, Political Editor in Hokkaido
Thursday, 10 July 2008
George Bush signed off with a defiant farewell over his refusal to accept global climate change targets
As he prepared to fly out from Japan, he told his fellow leaders: "Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter."
President Bush made the private joke in the summit's closing session, senior sources said yesterday. His remarks were taken as a two-fingered salute from the President from Texas who is wedded to the oil industry. He had given some ground at the summit by saying he would "seriously consider" a 50 per cent cut in carbon emissions by 2050.

Are you implying that I voted for him?
Or perhaps that I'm being lax because I'm not trying to stage an armed assault against the White House or something?

Exactly what I was gonna say. It's hilarious...Americans (even the pundits on Fox News) are now acting like Bush wasn't their fault and they had NOTHING to do with it. Let's not forget when his popularity numbers and approval ratings among Americans were in the 80 percent range.

Just because it's popular among Americans to hate Bush doesn't mean that people from the rest of the world forgot what happened to get you where you are. Yes...I know you didn't vote for Bush...but it's your country and you can't argue that you aren't responsible in the slightest. Whether it's the vote or just apathy from not voting, all Americans are ultimately responsible for the direction their country takes.
Don't take it personally....I'm not talking about you in particular.
No offense...but to my ears Americans who are apologetic about their country but don't take responsibility sound exactly like Alberto Gonzales, George Tenet or Scott McClellan when they left their respective positions. They all tried to wash their hands and hoped we all forgot their culpability just because they said,"Sorry." The real nerve-grater is that they followed up their apology with,"...but it wasn't my fault....it's that other guy."

If he voted against the current regime, and they won anyway, then he's indeed done all he could short of armed rebellion. If you offer him an action that would represent his responsibility, then I'm sure he would perform said task.

"Aint nuthin we cane dew, dangit" is a cop-out and you know it. But perhaps you're right...there is nothing you can do because none of you are informed enough to know where to start.

you hit the nail on the head, I'd like to say that I simply don't understand why anyone would fucking waste their time on shit like this...but indeed, this country has done so well for itself, you are now looking at the spoiled descendants of it.GONNAFISTYA wrote: ..if the general populace has enough time to memorize their favorite athlete's stats, they have enough time to pay attention to C-SPAN once in a while or at least write an angry letter.

Re: Why is this dickhead still representing us?
Angry letters don't do anything at all. If they're to my own representitives, I get the usual lip service, or nothing at all. If it's to another politician, I get angry "leave me alone or I'll report you to the police" type shit. And NO, I have never threatened a public servant...no matter how much I wanted to. I would love to be able to do something about this situation. I am well informed. I do have the Will to do something. The only things left to do are illegal. My God knows, I would not do anything illegal because that would be wrong and a bad thing.
Americans are just as much slaves to their government as any people throughout history. The only difference is that we were pampered into slavery instead of whipped into it. Affirmitive Action...Equal Rights...all of that stuff was spose to raise the people up. Our glorious government took these opportunities to lower everyone they could and say "look, now things are more even, huh?"

You can't make broad generalizations about groups of people and then pretend you weren't talking about them. After all, mine was the post you responded to. Saying "don't take it personally" is a cop-out.GONNAFISTYA wrote:I'm not being a cunt. I'm simply pointing out the obvious.

I'm not personally responsible for Bush in the slightest, simply because there is not a whole more I could have done than what I have, and if that bothers you, then deal with it. I realize what's happened the last several years is the country's responsibility as a whole, and it affects our reputation as a whole. That is different from what you are saying.
And I don't recall Gonzo or any of these other jerk-offs EVER saying they were sorry about anything, so that comparison is useless as well.
