Is that a plasma?Big Kahuna Burger wrote:spend $1400 and buy a 42'' Samsung. shit is SO cash.
Re: I know nothing of TVs...
My dad just got a 42" phillips from costco (1080P LCD) and it looks great.
You can find all sorts for that price. I'd go with LCD at this point - they have really gotten a lot better with deep black color and contrast ratio stuff that the plasmas used to be much better with.

Re: I know nothing of TVs...
There's rumors of big price drops in the works in the next couple of months.

xer0s, it's fair to assume not to spend your money on any 1080P hype , the quality diff. is not worth the price...yet

Wow, thanks for the heads up. Looks like I'll probably wait. But I still need to figure out which one I want...Fender wrote:There's rumors of big price drops in the works in the next couple of months.

Re: I know nothing of TVs...
He's saying that 1080P TVs are expensive and probably not worth it. You really needed a translator for that?

Re: I know nothing of TVs...
No, but I want to know what the alternative is. Not just what not to get. So buy a 720 instead?
Re: I know nothing of TVs...
There's no reason not to get 1080p these days, unless you're buying a small (less than 30") tv or are just really a cheap bastard.
edit: Also I was in best buy yesterday looking at all the new Samsung models and there's a huge leap in the current ones, which are running like $1300 and up (40 inch +). I'd recommend either waiting till the prices come down to your range or convincing yourself to spend a few hundred more and get one of the 2008 models (I believe they're marked as models XX450, XX650, etc)
edit again: look for the ones with 20000:1 contrast. And I wouldn't have believed it but the 30000:1 looks even better, though it's a larger jump in price.

F1 for creep...
Re: I know nothing of TVs...
of course 1080p is only used for blueray. your hd cable signal will probably be 1080i... so unless you have a blueray player or ps3

Yeah, 1920x1080 vs 1024x720, almost 3 times as many pixels. definitely not worth it

1080p sets are cheap now. They're really worth a look.

Re: I know nothing of TVs...
Well, true 720 is 1280x720, not 1024x720. Using your math, that's "only" twice as many pixels.shaft wrote:Tsakali wrote:xer0s, it's fair to assume not to spend your money on any 1080P hype , the quality diff. is not worth the price...yet![]()

My old roommate had a 42" Samsung and it was a nice sum bitch. I wouldn't mind having one of those. I wonder what the price will be on one after this alleged price drop...
Re: I know nothing of TVs...
BTW, if any of you hear of the price drop, be sure to post the announcement at this forum. This may be the only place I hear about it.
