All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
Will be a good day for the nerd tomorrow.
I just hope I don't break the processor putting the fan on.

i will pray to allah for you
seriously though, i know it's nerve-wracking and feels shitty when you've shocked your motherboard!

Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
as long as you aren't putting this together on carpet or rubbing balloons in your hair at the time you should really have to worry about static; though i know how much you love balloons.
it's almost retarded how simple it is to piece together a computer these days. no more having to worry if you connected your floppy cable in correctly or if your various jumper settings are correct.
what be the specs of your new machine?

well I think he is upgrading from this, so anything will be an improvement

Good stuff TNF, i'm glad that you decided to build rather then Buy..
And no, The days where you'll snap the Core by installing the HSF are dead and gone... The 775's are EXTREMLY easy, you place the CPU in the Cradle, and close the gate and lock it down, you're done.
the HSF plugs into the mobo, and you push the pins down... and you're done.
Good luck man, and i should be around in TNT if you run into anything ( i dont think you will, but... )
gl mang.

Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
yeah just take your time
Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
i've built machines, but i'm glad to hear that the core cracking issue isn't one anymore. that was always the only thing I worried about while putting one together.
Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
I need to get a new case, now that I think about it. The gravitational field that mine generates is starting to cause issues.

Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
Just use common sense...keep the motherboard away from static and don't cause any yourself, orient everything correctly, don't go crazy with screws...have fun
Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
Well I have to do this on the cheap because I just bought a new CRT tv like that one you guys are sporting.scared? wrote: rofl...

I got the E8400, and i'm just using the stock hsf. how much are you planning to oc this?tnf wrote: Well I have to do this on the cheap because I just bought a new CRT tv like that one you guys are sporting.
The case I'm looking at is the Thermaltake Lanbox. I just need to confirm that the GTX 260 will fit into it.
Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
Not at all ATM, just read that this fan was something I might want to avoid using.
Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
Have you considered liquid cooling?
Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
any links? i'm running the stock hsf, so if it's going to melt, i'd like to know about it in advance.tnf wrote:Not at all ATM, just read that this fan was something I might want to avoid using.
Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
I can't find whatever specific article was I read it in - I looked at several reviews of the thing. It wasn't a big warning against the stock fan by any means. I've just always, out of habit, put better cooling fans on the processor than the included ones. The benchmarks for this fan showed a significant decrease in processor temp at full CPU load (as long as you weren't running the fan at 5V) and the fan was only 27 bucks or so. I'm not an overclocking junkie by any means, so I'd never go with liquid cooling (although the quiet would be nice). From what I've seen, many overclockers go to a lot of trouble for an additional 7 fps at max resolution.Therac-25 wrote:any links? i'm running the stock hsf, so if it's going to melt, i'd like to know about it in advance.tnf wrote:Not at all ATM, just read that this fan was something I might want to avoid using.
Sorry if I caused confusion with that comment - don't want to cause any undue panic.
Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
No worries. Once i get a new case, I might start to see if I can o/c this thing anyway. I have a temperature panel all set to go when i get a case worth putting it into. I just can't stand to open that antec monolith up anymore, and it looks like junk.tnf wrote: I can't find whatever specific article was I read it in - I looked at several reviews of the thing. its a simple fact that PC parts last longer when they are cool...
and in some cases they actually are faster..

I'm getting one of these very soon: ThermalTake Big Water 760i Liquid Coolingandyman wrote:Have you considered liquid cooling?

From everything I've read about it it's relatively quiet, does an excellent cooling job and fits in the case. A friend of mine had a huge external cooling tank and that always turned me off of buying a liquid system but this thing does the trick without the bullshit.
Regarding being an overclocking junkie to need liquid cooling...AFAIK a sustained 10 C increase of idle temp can lessen the life of the CPU from 6 months to a year. Dunno if that's entirely true but I know that excessive heat doesn't help. My guess is that liquid cooling is for everyone...not just performance nerds.

Re: All my pc parts get here tomorrow.
damn that thing is cool... mine is small. It's got an adjuster knob to change the fan speed on the radiator though, and is very quiet.
