Honestly I think Johnny Depp is a bit over-rated. I agree that he's phenomenally entertaining to watch but I think it's mostly because he's charismatic - not so much a great actor. At the end of the day he always plays the same character - especially since Fear and Loathing.

Methinks Jackal is a trollin.

FFS man...you actually think that his Raoul Duke character is the same as Jack Sparrow, George Jung, Ichabod Crane, Ed Wood or Willy Wonka?

Check him out in In Bruges. He's fantastic. Brendan Gleeson is also one of my favorite contemporary actors.

The Dark Knight...

Better than the first, but not god in terms of films. I enjoyed it, thought it was awesome, but something seemed... Off. I dont know what. It was almost like it was so sure to be a perfect film but there was something holding it back? I cant put my finger on it. Maybe its how cluttered it was, with plots strings coming out of its ass at times...?

Either way, if I had to 100% say 1 thing that was wrong, it would be this:

Image

This is, quite possibly, the worst looking woman I have seen in my life. And I have seen David Bowie in Labyrinth mind you... She acts like a plank of wood, has a voice deeper than Bale in Bat suit and looks about 96 years old. Serious.

Anyway, with regards to what was awesome? The Joker. Easily beats Jacks Joker, which is no easy task. Believe the hype kids, this Joker was fucking awesome, and I waited for every scene. The magic trick he does took me by surprise, I just wasnt expecting it like that, and I laughed my ass off...

Which is another point. The Dark Knight in the UK is a 12A... And this film was NOT a 12. Not only was it violent as hell, it had some shocking scenes in it (And the first time I have actually been a little worried watching a flick). For a 12A? fucking awesome. But I know he got a 12 because he A) cried and B) needs toys to sell :p

In short:

Hated:
Maggie whats her name... ugh...
The Batpod.
How many plots we had to keep track of.
Lack of bat cave.

Loved:
The Joker.
The full on action and suspense.
The Joker.
The violence.
The Joker.
The magic trick, the nurse scene...
The Joker.
How human Bats was in this one, he was one of us.
The Joker.
The supporting cast did great, except the mayor, who was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to obviously the guy from Lost with even more eye make up than usual.

Gotta say... Love that Joker :D

The way he skips around, washes his hands, and walks away REALLY confused about everything just made that entire scene. Awesome work there.

So you rate a film partly on how the female character looks? You stupid cunt.

Also I agree with Jackal on Depp. He's great, but he ain't really a great actor. Look at Willy Wonka, you think it was a good performance because it's quirky and it's Depp, but it really isn't a stretching role.

Also Jack Sparrow is a very easy part to play. Do an impression of Keith Richards and you've cracked it.

I could of rated the movie on the fat twat sat next to me.

Or the god awful parking that insisted the carpark was full even though there were 20 odd spaces.

Or the fact the little blue "flames" thing at the start was nowhere near as cool as it was in begins.

Point is. I can rate MY review on whatever the fridge I like, cunty.

Hellboy 2 - 5.5/10 It was visually excellent but the story felt muddled; like it was trying to do too much.

Wanted 6/10 Over the top nonstop action with a Fight Club type of feel to it at times. Great popcorn entertainment but leave your brain at the door.

Dark Knight 10/10 - Epic and amazing throughout. The Joker defined badass in a way even Hannibal can't begin to step to.

R00k wrote:I dunno, DiCaprio started off with What's Eating Gilbert Grape, and that was hardly an easy role - it certainly wasn't just playing himself. And I thought his character in The Aviator was highly impressive. He looked like a different person, and his mannerisms were completely different from other roles.
His acting in The Departed stood out to me because he wasn't just playing a kid trying to be a cop, and then playing a kid trying to get in the mob. When he was infiltrating Jack Nicholson's guys, he was playing a guy who was playing a guy trying to get in the mob, and you could tell because did such a good job portraying the inner conflicts of the position.

It's all subjective though, and that's just my opinion.

I'll give you gilbert grape... but I wasn't paying that much attention when I watched the departed, mainly because the plot *twists* in that movie were so obvious. IIRC acting wise I think I was more impressed by marky mark.

on an unrelated but related topic:
don't know if it's a combination of the dying before the movie is released + the makeup... but the more I reflect on Dark Knight, the more I want to find a copy of the crow and watch that again.

Dark Knight - 9.2/10

The pinnacle of comic book movies. There was only a single very brief sequence I disliked out of the whole movie -- in the chase scene where the semi somehow flipped completely over as if it were rigid, then batman standing vertically on his bike and spinning it in a circle. Not sure how that made it in there.

But this movie was excellent. The best part was the premature climax followed by another half of a movie, which I wasn't expecting.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing after I left the theater last night.

edit: oh yea, the magic trick was awesome.

The Dark Knight.

9/10

I'll need to see it again. I had little sleep on Friday so was pretty knackered last night. The cinema was fucking hot as well, no air con.

However, from what I do remember actually taking in, amazing stuff. The bar has been raised for this genre and I only hope that other superhero films follow suit. I'm not too hopeful for the Marvel franchise but with a bit of luck we'll see the same kind of grit in The Watchmen.

Can't wait to see this again in the comfort of my own home!
