Thx for the kind comments kids.
tnf, did I not mention that I stalk them? Yes, I was serious when I made that statement. I'm literally, down in the grass stalking these alien type beings that live an existence annually.
However I will admit that this is no HUGE zoom lens as zooms don't capture such crisp clear details. While I do have a decent zoom, but not the one I would like, yet, most have been captured with a 60mm Macro with tubes. Tubes allow a higher magnification by moving the lens farther away from the sensor, thus decreasing the distance of a subject.
The depth of field is particularly small, and yes, sometimes, I'm quite literally, on top of them, hoping they don't move, jump or fly.
Nothing sucks more than having a good shot, getting focused and then the frame shows nothing but green before I hit the shutter button No bug, no shot and that has happened plenty of times.
Patience is a virtue my grandmother always told me. In this type of shooting, she is correct.
However I have used my 70-300 IS USM with tubes, and was quite surprised with the results on a particular Jumping Spider.
The frame is a lot larger, gave me more distance and did not scare my subject away. However I was not satisfied with the clarity of the shot.
With 70-300 IS USM with a full set of tubes about 9 feet away, tripod mounted, IS not in use.
This little spider is no bigger than a dime, but you certainly cant tell that from this picture. He looks more like a monster, and yes, he was looking at me when I took this one.
