Hello everyone.
I haven't posted in these forums for awhile. I haven't even touched Radiant in 3 years. Got busy. For those of you who remember me; hi! And for those of you who don't, I made these maps.
Anyways. I'm posting here because I want to make a youtubeumentary (that's a documentary that will be solely designed for youtube). It will NOT be sold for commercial purposes, so therefore I won't make any money. This is a project that I have been wanting to do for a long time, but I just haven't had the time to do so. Now I do!
So I want to make a documentary about mappers. Here is where I need the communities help. I'm looking for VOLUNTEERS to offer an hour or two to be interviewed for my film. Basically I will show up at your location, set up my tripod and camera (which is not fancy at all as I am a total beginner), and film. That's it. I'm looking for people on the East Coast.
We can do this remotely if you want to help, but are too far away from me to shoot physically. Just let me know and we will work something out. No problem.
This is a project that I have been wanting to do for a long while. I have every intention of making a nice film that will probably be 30-60 minutes long... If I get the help from you guys!
This is a NON-PAYING VOLUNTEER opportunity for the community to speak up about the hobby they love so much! Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
-Eric

Re: Documentary about mappers
Always good to see you around redfella (don't pretend I didn't see you pop in on the IRC channel).
Have you thought about the message that you want to send with your documentary? Most documentaries are filmed almost like an essay where they have a thesis, evidence and some sort of a conclusion. Just a mash-up of interviews would be a little boring to watch, so you may want to illustrate something that has to do with the kind of people that mappers are and why they feel compelled to do it, for example.

Re: Documentary about mappers
Oh definately. I plan on making the most professional documentary I can, as I think this may be something that I want to persue further (as in a career at some point). This documentary will be "testing the waters" sort of speak.obsidian wrote:Have you thought about the message that you want to send with your documentary? Re: Documentary about mappers
Do you have a script for it yet? Any documentary that you are inspired from, I mean, format wise that one might catch somewhere on the net... is it more like Pirates of Silicon Valley or like Koyaanisqatsi, which are both docs but totaly different.

I'm living up in Boone still, if you're interested... it'll have to be in a few weeks though because I'm in the process of moving into a new house.
Re: Documentary about mappers
Similar in style to Pirates of Silicon Valley. Even though Pirates of Silicon Valley wasn't exactly a documentary (more of a made-for-tv bio-drama), that's still the feel I'm going for.Hipshot wrote:Any documentary that you are inspired from, I mean, format wise that one might catch somewhere on the net... is it more like Pirates of Silicon Valley or like Koyaanisqatsi, which are both docs but totaly different.
At best I'm looking for a solid story to follow. Stories docs make the best documentaries IMO. Otherwise it will have to be a 'history of' type documentary.

Re: Documentary about mappers
As far as script is concerned, I'm still trying to put it together. There are two things that I am focusing on in these initial stages.
1) I am trying to talk to as many mappers as I can over the internet one-on-one to determine the overall "identity of a mapper". I already have a good idea about this as I was a mapper myself for 3 years and I know what my own personal ambitions and hopes were.
2) Also, in these online interviews I am trying to dig up any good stories to tell in the documentary. Good stories are the foundation for any piece of art, whether it be film or novel or music or canvas or documentaries, etc. If I can uncover just one, I'll have a good portion the work already done for me.
So, on that note, if any of you mappers out there have any good stories to tell, LET ME KNOW! Please!
