many many many problems with q3

im having shit loads of problems with q3. first off i cant find a q3 file anywhere in my computer. 2nd everytime i load q3 i have to reset the geometric detail, because its really laggy. 3rd my settings on q3 dont save which means i have to put most of the stuff back to where i had it. 4th my server browser doesnt scroll down or up.[ i downloaded qtracker but cant figure out how to join games from it ] 5th it will rarley crash out of no where and make my computer screen all bright looking. 6th i cant think of anymore problems. P:S in the downloads section there is a game update which i downloaded, but when i try to run it nothing happens.

hmm..

1. q3 files are located at: c:/program files/quake III arena/
2. see #3
3. all settings are saved in a file called q3config.cfg. you can open it notepad and edit it if you know what you are doing. if you have lots of config problems, just renamed the q3config.cfg file and the next time you run Q3, everything will be reset to default.
4. the q3 server browser sux. use an alternative browser. For qtracker, go into settings and add the game Quake3 to it, specify the location of the quake3.exe file. then after the game is added, right click on Quake3 in the games list and choose "find internet games". when you want to join a server, right click on it and choose 'join'.
5. that happens sometimes. run q3 again and then quit the game to fix the desktop.

oh and my computer cant find a quake 3 file ANY WHERE

Uhm... you have a Quake3 icon on your desktop or in the menu somewhere, right? Right-click, choose Properties and it'll tell you where the executable is.

i found where it is. its in "C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 2200 kinda weird

oh i didn't realize you were using steam. to get it working in qtracker, put in the location of the steam.exe (instead of the quake3.exe). then under command line put: -applaunch 2200
