Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
the more you show the more it kinda just looks like tech4. but that aside the fact your team is only 3 and this came off the q2 engine, its amazing stuff
looking forward to seeing some content.

Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
an alpha you say??
Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
Alpha is in closed Alpha now, we have about 20 people with it with about 15 devs working on it.
Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
Dieing to play this. I will actually need to invest in a graphics card to be able to run this. Do you have a rough idea ofo'dium wrote:Alpha is in closed Alpha now, we have about 20 people with it with about 15 devs working on it.
when a public release will be available O'dium?
Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
Public? Not really, we are still crafting models and stuff so a good while yet.

Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
Kind of a dumb question but do the liquids have physics applied to them (ie. can they flow out of containers) or are they static in position?
Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
Erm... They are static... Theres one game coming out soon that looks to have nice water physics (Called Hydrofear or something like that), but you wont find anything that does proper water simulations for a looooooooong time.

Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
I know that real-time water simulation is a little ways off in videogames (at least anything remotely decent) just thought maybe you guys were attempting to get something good working.
Like I said, kind of a dumb question :P

Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
the physix (?) engine had a interesting liquids demo.. but yeah, its gonna be years before water starts to act realistic....

Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
You forked from the GPL'ed Q2, right? How then can it be closed source, closed alpha, closed anything? Apart from that, remember the adage that many eyes make bugs shallow.o'dium wrote:Alpha is in closed Alpha now, we have about 20 people with it with about 15 devs working on it.
Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
what he said?
Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
You can closed source the game as much as you want. Its only when you release to the public that you must provide the source code. The source code is available on request, as always, but the rest (Tools source code, all of the art/models etc) is freely available from the SVN.
In short, only people working on this thing get the source handed to them on a plate, because its only them that have access to the actual build .exe. Until we release it publicly, we wont be releasing the source code, so that we gain an advantage against hackers who will no doubt try to mess up everything, and even then we will probably be buyinbg the actual Source ($10k) before we release.
Trust us, Berserk and myself have thought long, hard, and exchanged many emails with id Software over this, and this is the best way to go

Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
Fair point about the 'internal use only' clause. But this I don't understand:
If you are planning to go commercial, you are better off with a business plan where you sell additional content for a decent price. Being binary only has never stopped a pirate before. Cheaters neither, when it comes to that.that we gain an advantage against hackers
Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
We arn't planning on selling OverDose. But we are planning on buying a licence.
Think about it... Hackers will hack anything if its played enough. But giving them the code on a plate? lol, good luck...
We may infact code protection in a seperate .dll which we wouldn't have to release the code for, which could work, I dunno...

Re: OverDose Technology Video - Part Two
I just wanted to make sure I understand this correctly...
Blur is going to spend $10,000 USD for a license to a game that they're planning on distributing for free so that they don't have to reveal the source code? (all this in an attempt to thwart hackers)
