queue: lol idiot

@andyman: well if you're mainly into lyrics then I can see why the new album blows. I don't find the lyrics particularly bend-minding either, but the guitar work is a step up from their last few observations.

yeah he does a lot less wah-ing. I think I only heard two wah sessions, and one of them proceeded a "normal" solo so it was less invasive.

btw engrish

I've only got the fucking WMA rips to go off of, but this album's surprisingly decent. Maybe it's just the contrast to that shitfest they had in 2003, but I might actually keep onto this one as soon as some flacs come out.

I just got finished listening to the album, and I think it was pretty good. It's a lot better than some of their more recent stuff (with goes without saying) and harkens back to the heavier, more "metal" days of Metallica. I love the fact that the songs are all well over the 3- to 5-minute mark which seems to be the trend in recent years, and I'm made happier by the fact that there's enough variety in each song to keep them from getting redundant halfway through.

Speaking of variety, the album's songs as a whole sound a bit too similar to one another for my liking. The one exception is The Unforgiven III, which while being distinct, hardly resembles its predecessors. Not that this is a bad thing; the song sounds great and it's my favorite on Death Magnetic.

If ...And Justice for All deserves a 10/10 and Reload a 7/10, I'd say Death Magnetic is somewhere around the 7.5/10 range.

And yes, r3t, I will definitely be buying the album for Guitar Hero III. I love the Dragonforce track pack and the Guitar Virtuoso track pack and want some more crazy shit to add to my playlist. :D

Jesus at 15 dollars I would probably be buying CD’s too instead of downloading them. Unfortunately a new CD costs around 20 euros around here, which means they can fuck right off.

To me, metallica lost their hard edge after kill 'em all. After that, they were like a different band. Ride the lightning was OK, MOP, OK, AJFA I like, but at this point the music had been absolutely drained of the magical vocal rage Hetfield had previously possessed.

Srsly, whats the deal with James' voice? I don't mind his black album era of vocals, but ever since st anger it's cringe worthy.

He took singing lessons.

Never should have done that. Singers who take lessons mid-career often fuck up what's been giving their voice character.

Other example: Sunny Day Real Estate

Metallica are played out. I haven't heard the new album yet (aside from two tracks), but TBH it wouldn't take much at this point to impress me because they've been so shit lately. So, even if I like it when I hear it, half of that response is going to be from the "thank god they don't suck so bad" department.

And yea, if I had to pick one of their albums to keep, it would probably be Justice. But I still love hearing Puppets and Ride the Lightning just as much. I used to love Kill em All, but that one's fallen behind the others.

Garage Days was badass too.

I dunno.. I've been listening to the new album a bunch more in the last two days, it's starting to grow on me. I still am annoyed by the lyrics & singing in a lot of songs, but some of the guitar work is fuckin' sweet. All Nightmare Long is a great track, the grungey riff that starts in near the beginning of the song is great. The instrumental is pretty cool too, it's sweet to hear that MarkIIC+ out again :D
