LCD monitor recommendations?

Post by Nightshade »

I'm looking for a 22" as the 20" are almost the same price. Newegg has what look to be decent choices, but I'm not sure what the minimum contrast ratio I should look for is, etc. Acer? Benq? Samsungs look to be out of my price range, which is $200, btw.

Viewsonic, Samsung, and LG are the best IMO. I've got a 19" LG Flatron L1970HR 2ms with a 2000:1 DCR and it's fantastic with DVI-D.

Newegg doesn't seem to have much of a selection in your price range. The only thing I see are those Acers and I wouldn't buy them. You should invest in a top-of-the-line monitor since you won't be replacing it for a long time.

I'd like to echo for Viewsonic, Samsung, LG as well as the upper class Dells. Keep in mind, each of those manufacturers, while generally reliable, make a range of products including cheaper (less colour accurate 6-bit pannels) monitors as well as high range stuff. I wouldn't pay for the cheaper stuff. Save up if you have to, monitors last a long time so get something decent.

My current monitor is a Dell 2408WFP 24" sucker. Costs a lot but totally worth every penny. My older monitor is a Viewsonic 20" but colour replication isn't as accurate and I notice a bit of banding on grayscales (probably a 6-bit panel).

i got the Acer x223w and love it, alittle banding on greyscale, and the contrast is set to high by default.

so the only downside is the banding which i've noticed to happen with bright greyscale

Is the only one thats stupid cheap, and id semi trust. Im not a fan of acer monitors, but we had em at work (That model i think too) and they wernt bad on a real video card. Through vga with onboard they sucked huge dick. Some medium backlight bleeding too, not totally bad, but it drives some people up the wall.

I bought two LG L222WT for $300 each. They're pretty damned good the price.
