graphic artifacts in video games?

so i had baught a new vcard 8800gt a few months back, but since yestarday, any game I try to run has artifacts and freezes left and right.. lots of artifacts covering the screen it actually even happens on some youtube videos...
so what gives? is my videocard shit now? is it heat? ( I doubt it it happens from a cold boot state immediately)
has my gpu/memory/ power supply gone under?

If it's happening on flash videos, it sounds like a faulty card. Which vendor made the card? eVGA, XFX, etc.
What's your cooling setup like?

Download Rivatuner and monitor your temps and fan speed. You can use it to bump up the fan speed from the default Nvidia 29%.

Also make sure you're on stock clocks. The stock cooler on the 8800GT is awful for overclocking. I bought the Thermaltake DuOrb to take care of that problem.

it's a ZOTAC 8800gt factory oc'ed to 700 and 1000 respectively. was working fine up until this thread. I'll try that program and report later.

Download HW monitor from CPUID and Run that play a game for a bit, the G92 ( 8800 ) should report its core temp.. post the min/Max temps here.

Yeah I'd never heard of the company either until seeing one of their cards in Future Shop a couple weeks back.

I got it from newegg... it had an impressive amount of reviews and they were all praising this card. It didn't seem that much of a risk considering.

Ran the app, played a game for 45 mins, and heres mine:

GeForce 8800 GTS hardware monitor
Temperature sensor 0 min 59°C Max 69º

the fan is running 77% at all times, just FYI... the temps used to get into the upper 90's

Hummm, 83 isnt that bad, though i'de want it lower.

you have two choices, leave it be, or download an app to control the speed of the fan and move it up a few notices..

As i said, i have mine at 77% so its JUST quiet enough so i cant hear it, but its high enough so it will cool my heat tossing G80 Core.

sorry for being a complete moron, I forgot to mention I did use riva tuner to bump up the fan speed to 75% I think that was in effect when I did the temp. test....should I underclock this damn thing?


the truth is my case sucks when it comes to cooling, on top of not having the case cover on there it doesn't have any case fans

Ahh, well, play it out a little more..

when you are getting the error's on the screen Load up HWmonitor and see what you are getting temp wise...
