I'm In Love
with Microsoft.
My 360 crapped out on me with the 3 red rings of death and I tried to register my device to ship it out for free repair.
Well, the serial number wasn't working.
Called customer service and it turns out it was registered to somebody else before I bought it (second-hand from a twitchy college student in a hurry who shoved the console and accessories into a grocery bag and handed it to me).
Guy on the phone says that it might be stolen but "don't you worry about this. We'll register this under your name and have a clean slate of data".
So it's registered under my name and it's getting repaired free of charge (including no shipping costs). On top of this I'm given a free month of xbox live gold subscription and a 90 day warranty on the new console.
All of this in ~10 minutes on the phone.
That's some quality service.

"Welcome To The Social"
The RRoD Club Social that is.
I can't think of anyone who hasn't had at least 2 360's. I'm on my third and so is my son. I'm thinking of selling my current one and just buying a new model with the Falcon chip and everything.
Microsoft is pretty good about getting it fixed or getting you a replacement. They don't need a receipt or anything. If it's in your possession and under warranty, they'll fix it.

the guy told me my console's warranty had expired in April of 2007 but said "don't worry about this".

Re: I'm In Love
wtf? I only got the guys from India telling me to power cycle it (
) and that it wasn't under warranty so I'd have to pay.

Re: I'm In Love
They are lulling you into a false sense of security. Keep yer head down. Watch fer stealth choppers and white panel vans. If you get woke up in the middle of the night by guys dressed in black shining lights in yer eyes...follow their instuctions.

I was only on the phone a for a few minutes, too, and hadn't registered mine. They didn't care and it cost me nothing to replace, so I was as happy as I could be considering I was replacing a broken product.
BKB, sounds like you called the wrong number or were transferred to the wrong extension.
Edit: or didn't have 3 red rings (I just read your thread)

Re: I'm In Love
same as trans. mine died, never regged it, it was 2 weeks past its warranty.
the guy just asked me to give him the serial# and they sent me a brand new one. gg
it is still pretty bad that they die so quickly tho

Re: I'm In Love
are xboxes currently produced still of such poor quality?
Re: I'm In Love
dont think so.
the first ones had heating problems and cheap glue that melted.
the latter was corrected and I think the new ones use different chipsets (less power required).
time will tell

Re: I'm In Love
shit's about to go down.
48 hours is almost up and I still don't have the email I'm supposed to get.
Trying to check the status of my repair request returns a "no registered devices" message.
I probably got some ass who was about to finish his shift and just wanted to get home so he told me it's all good just so I would hang up.
