Auto bot match?

Post by scottchiefbaker »

Is there a way to setup a big botmatch, with no interactive players and just watch? I'd like to setup a Quake3 "screen saver" where 16 bots just go at it for 20 minutes. Seems it's possible, I'm just not sure how to start the match, and then "follow" the bot instead of playing interactively.

yup. after starting a server, type "/team s" in the console. this will make you an observer and the bots will just go at it.

if you want a bot to fill in your place, type "/bot_minplayers 16".
this will add bots when there are less than 16 human players on the server. so if there arent any players, bots will fill in the empty slots.
come to think of it tho, im not sure if a spectator is recognized as a missing player...

I set a game with 8 spots, and filled 6 with Alien and Superhero bots, then went to observe. I'm pretty sure that's the kind of thing yer looking for. Had a great time watching it. Are you planning on looping the film for the screen saver? How do you do that sorta thing? I'm not real experienced with movie software....
