So, my father was on 20/20...

Post by Mojo Jojo »

The topic was Orthorexia.
A mental disorder where the affected are taken to disturbing and sometimes deadly extremes regarding healthy eating.

Victoras, my step dad, is interviewed for his expertise on the benefits of the "raw foods" diet.
While John Stossel, whom i always thought was a great interviewer, gave him a bit of a hard time. I think held his own. Especially when he told him that he didn't agree that he looked healthy for his age. Stossel said he was only 8 or so years younger than him and that Victoras looked "emaciated". I've known him 30 years and he has always had the same build.

Holy fuck, i pray that i'm that flexible and look/feel that good @ 70... :tard:

I wonder how big the genetic component of aging is in all of these fad diets that promise longevity. you can find a person of advanced age who is capable of doing crazy shit that has followed just about any eating program there is and we know there are genetic variables that play huge roles in aging. Not saying there isn't a health benefit to eating right, just that diets that advertise longer life as a main selling point seem to be making some bold claims pertaining to people. i'd like to see more data aside from mouse studies showing that reduced calorie diets extend lifespan and that take into account known genetic components to look at the impact of certain diets on lifespan. I might go look for it at some point too.
but not now.

I fully believe that genetics play a huge part in ones longevity. That being said common sense, to me, is that the less stress you put your body through (fats/sugars/chems/processed food stuffs) and the more clean eats you get not only gives you a longer life but a much higher quality one. Common sense, unfortunately very unso in the gen pop.

That guy interviewing came off as a pompous jackass. Half of what he said was unnecessary and seemed pretty insulting to me.
