Can't start the game,help please...

I downloaded the final patch not too long ago.When I tried to started the game,it quits and then the Quake 3 console comes up and says "GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem".I use windows Vista,could that be the problem..although I could run the 1.1 patch on here no problem.

it means your current videocard does not support 3D acceleration.
dont fret though, the most common cause of this is lack of drivers.
download and install the drivers for your videocard and try again.



... although vista should have 3d drivers installed by default..

Well I also have integrated sound that might have those.But I put in a kind of "older" video card in the hopes it would make thing a little easier on my RAM when playing a game.I'll try updating it to see if that helps,thank you.

What is this '1.1 patch' you mentioned? The final version of quake3 is 1.32c

Your sound device most likely has nothing to do with this. Tell us what video card you're using, and whether you have installed drivers for it.

Actually I meant video.And updating the drivers did help.And the video card isn't real old,maybe a few years. =/

do yourself another favor and download the 1.32 patch, followed by the 1.32c patch (you dont really need the latter unless you're planning on running servers, but it couldnt hurt either).

Wrong. You need 1.32c. It fixes an exploit where an evil server can take over the client (not just the game, the whole PC).

oh. i knew about the exploit, i thought it related to servers only.

anyways apply it after applying 1.32; i dont think theres a full 1.32c update package available

No, I think 1.32c was just a new Quake3.exe in a zip.
