iPhone 3G

I'm a heavy blackberry user, I read and send many messages a day and live by my BB calendar. My company is starting to write modules for the iPhone so I swapped in my Blackberry curve for the iPhone 3G to get ready to support our users and I feel (mildly) crippled.

Now my comments are from a corporate standpoint, the iPhone has a ton of cool features, but if it does not allow me to be productive and connected all day it fails as a device.

Service AT&T Wireless
My blackberry was connected with EDGE service 24 hours a day I rarely had any poor service spots in any of our campus buildings in my normal travels or at home.

My iPhone has no connectivity phone or data in my office or the building my office is in. It also only has phone connectivity in my house no data. Without my wifi connections in both locations the phone is USELESS

Calendar and meeting request are Far superior to any phone I have ever used. meeting requests are separated and the option to view my daily calendar for adjacent events makes accepting on the road very easy

Email is also much better than the Blackberry, it supports html, photos and is a pleasure to use, but no service makes it hard to stay connected.



Anyone else using it for corporate use?

Update on the connectivity issue: A ticket is open for norther NJ that they are experiencing data service issues 7545841. I'm hoping this will fix my service issues.

Iphone 3g is crap for the working person, even after they did updates they still need to iron out a ton of issues. Starting with the most important ones like being able to receive phone calls and emails on a more regular basis.

I have ordered my Blackbery 8120 and will be back to normal in a few days. I really wanted this phone to work, but it let me down.

mine is awesome, I have 3g connection pretty much everywhere I go. I think they have an app out there that will sync your tasks and notes.

I agree any phone would be useless if you had shitty reception in your area.

me and a collegue are the iphone guinea pigs in the office, and I honestly have to say I love the bloody thing, as does my collegue. With a blackberry you kind of have to change the way you manage your mailbox for it to be effective and it's all bit of an arseache, especially when it comes to read messages and filing messages into folders. iPhone has no such problems. The calendar on the iPhone is also fantastic.

From what I can see, your two major complaints are 3G connectivity and tasks/notes... and I guess the reason why we haven't come across the later issues is because we use Basecamp for our task/notes/writeboard management (and thus are eagerly awaiting the release of outpost by every passing day!).

For 3G connectivity, I can't comment as I flogged my 3G iPhone and I'm currently with a 2G edition (over £600 cash for the 3G variant when I had the 2G sat in a drawer, couldn't resist?) The EDGE on my phone works fantasically. I've never queried my workmate about his 3G connectivity, but he tends to moan a lot, about everything, ever... but never has mentioned anything in respect to not getting data (and trust me, if the event ever occurred, he's let me & 1/2 the office know)...

Yeah it does. I'll only bother to upgrade my 2G when they come out with a 32 gig version... which has a battery that lasts more than a couple of hours

We don't do Verizon so the Storm is out of the question. I'm also leery about the virtual keyboard (ala iPhone) I hated the iPhones version. On average I read and respond to about 100 - 200 emails per day and about 40% of those are done on my mobile.

The signal is not the problem it's apparently the chip they used for 3G, it's still not functioning well therefore I answer call and no one is on the other end, that's if the phone rings. Then it errors out when going between 3G and Edge. It gets stuck on edge and phone does not have priority so while my phone is downloading data via Edge the phone cannot accept calls.

I agree apple got the exchange calendar perfect, I loved the way this feature worked and also allowed you to go back and forth between your day's events and the meeting request. But notes and tasks missing really shadowed this one good feature

The blackberry gives me my music and videos iTunes free yay!!! so no more having to move my music to one computer to sync and i will no longer be suffering from the "iPhail's" crippling interface.

I work with blackberry's a lot, all the field technicians that I manage have them and use them to pull up jobs and messages from us. I can't see us switching to iphones anytime soon... They do have their share of issues though once their linked into the systems we use, like simple commands can cause massive outages across canada...

Enterprise use it's not so good for productivity it's too slow to type properly on and does not work when needed.

If you are using exchange 2007 The user can remote wipe right from their Outlook web access. It bricks the iPhone until you perform a restore. If the phone is lost or stolen they can leave the phone in their OWA mobile device list and it will continue to wipe the device every time it tries to sync.

Only once when I made the mistake of checking an email while eating. Other than that I use it heavily day and night, and never had a dirty ball. but I change devices every 6 months or so.

We now have 180+ users about 100 of them have either the pearl or the curve and I would say we have replaced 20 due to ball issues. the newer once seem to be much more sturdy.

BB's are fucking awful phones.
Best phone i've had to date is the HTC Touch Diamond.

Enterprise functionality BBs will win hands down, you miss out on so much with a push phone.
