The only reason I'd buy a console is if it had some other practical use and/or my son wanted one. My son is 8 and doesn't have much interest in playing video games. He has access to a PS2, Wii and his own PC, but still chooses to play outside, ride his dirt bike or build with legos (which is great). The only time he really touches the consoles is when friends come over and ask to play. So if I were to choose a console today, it'd be the PS3 for it's media playing abilities.

Looks like your son has made a smart decision in not wanting to turn out like his loser father and having LAN party sausagefests in his 30's. Horrible genetics aside there may be hope for him yet.

I really didn't get into gaming until I was in my late 20's. Of course I always had the latest and greatest console when I was a kid. But I was usually outside doing something with my friends. Be it camping, bike riding, go carting and dirt bike riding in my youth. Or, jet skiing, boating, fishing, going to the beach and partying in my 20's. So I guess my son could end up like me later on. Which wouldn't be so bad in the grand scheme of things. At least he wouldn't have wasted his youth sitting around the house.

sounds like your kid is slow, i understand video games and using a pc might be a bit harder than playing outside with dirt and legos. :olo:

My son operates a computer and plays video games just fine. He simply enjoys being outside and doing other things more.
