Let the Right One In - 9/10

Quite beautiful and sad, and a fantastically unique addition to the otherwise rather stale vampire genre.

It captures the early 80's where it is set perfectly, and I recognized attributes from then in every single scene. The pacing is slow, sometimes even philosophical, especially during the numerous environment shots. The sound design is visceral, on occation even nauseating, and the mood sets a perfect balance between suspense and anticipation.

Lame story, weak acting, silly characters, non-existant scares, unfunny jokes and failed attempts at social commentary. Sorry mr Romero, this is even worse than your last one.

Yep, all excellent. Also Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski.

I had seen Miller's Crossing a long time ago and had forgotten most of it, but it's been in my Netflix queue and I just watched it tonight.

It's definitely one of their best, although I think it's underrated by some due to the genre.

Quantum of Solace - 6.5/10

I though Daniel Craig was pretty cool as new Bond in Casino Royale. More gritty, more faulty, more realistic. He remains the same in Quantum, but now I realize that he isn't James Bond. He's a cold, hardened killer without the wit and charm of the old Bonds. He fights in the style of Jason Bourne without much emotions. I miss Q and Moneypenny that could bring some relief to all his burden.

The story is mainly an excuse to bring us viewers to 6 different exotic locations with no apparent connection. It could be anywhere and it wouldn't matter. The premise promised is interesting and I sincerely hope they will develop the story arch into a more solid base for the next movie.

Splinter = 6/10 - Not a typical zombie movie. I liked the way the bones snapped.

Eagle Eye = 6/10 - The same premise as I, Robot and slows down considerably after you find out who the "bad guy" is. The car crashes were hilarious in that the cars didn't just smash into each other and cartwheel through the air...but they had to be shredded into a million pieces in the process. I actually laughed at the ridiculousness of it and began giggling at the start of every car-chase scene. And nobody will ever beat The Blues Brothers for "most police cars destroyed in a movie".

The Jerk = 9/10 - I hadn't seen this since I was a wee cunt. Brilliant writing and captures the true essence of Steve Martin's comedic approach. I saw him on the Daily Show recently and he's as funny as ever.

Cleaner = 7/10 - A decent flick but I absolutely NEED to hear Sam Jackson say "mutha fucka" in every movie or it sucks.

Futurama - Benders Game = 6/10 - Meh.

Traitor = 8/10 - Decent flick. Basically recycled but entertaining.

They said they wanted to take bond in a different direction.. well... feel free, but don't fuck about with the bond timeline/legacy/continuity (as flawed as it is)... if you want to remix james bond, go spawn a different spy series. Worked just find for Bourne.....

Quantum of Solace - 6/10

Somewhat disjointed story, well produced but lacking coherence and focus. Feels like the "middle" film of a trilogy because of all the loose ends (which is probably is). The climax at the hotel in the desert was rather contrieved (I mean, why put fuel cells inside the walls to every room?) and doesn't really add anything to the story, which I guess is why they needed to add that dénouement at the end. Great job of making Bond's motivations so ambiguos though, that was a nice touch.

I agree. Though Casino Royale felt fresh and it featured enough references to the past, Quantum of Solace feels disjointed from the Bond universe.
And I'm not even a hardcore Bond fan.

Quantum of Solace = 4/10 - A relatively interesting story but ruined by what is quite possibly one of the worst editing jobs I've ever seen.

This "re-imagining" of the Bond francishe also loses points because James Bond has now become a character I don't see as a hero and is every bit as insane and bloodthirsty as the bad guys he's trying to stop. And this sub-plot of M not trusting Bond has gone on for so long (since before Craig played Bond) I'm convinced the writers have run out of ideas between the two characters.

Fuck the new Bond. Fuck him in his self-righteous ass.

Yeah from what I've heard, he's just playing a hard-boiled killer, not Bond. It was good in Casino Royale, but it's pretty crap here. About the only thing positive is that at least Craig is better than Brosnan in every way possible, especially his tailoring.

Craig is better looking but I think that's another place they went wrong with this "new" Bond....focusing on Craig's physique rather than creating a likeable character.

Sean Connery is a large, imposing man and although he was 6' 5" the older Bond movies never played to that with lower camera angles and "glistening" skin shots.

These new Bond films are catering more to the female/fag audience instead of the intelligent audience they were meant for. Pierce Bronsan's Bond era made the series dumb and they wanted to get away from that...they failed.

Goldeneye was all sorts of awesome. Fact.

I think most people are missing the point with the new bond film. He had just been given his 00 status in the last film. He was as green as they come really. He fell for a bird who he loved and then she got killed. Quantum of Solace starts straight after that, it is a follow on. He has all the rage and anger of a man who lost the woman he loves. He is bitter and twisted in everyway you can imagine and the people who killed his love are going to pay the ultimate price. This is a revenge movie and he lays down the hot dicks left, right and centre. He obviously has not got his "Bond skin" on yet so is still suseptable to his own emotions.

Films makes perfect sense and is a worthy sequel to Casino Royale

Compared to the usual claptrap of action films, yes.

Admittedly, it's hard to swallow my argument when the villain is wearing a huge, see-through salad bowl on his head as he turns dials on a tape recorder convincing himself that it's a history-eraser-button/doomsday device....but yeah.

The old Bond had a license to kill but used it only when he needed to. He was a spy first and an assassin second. This new Bond...killing is his only job. FFS....even the action sequences have devolved into one-second-per-shot editing jizz bombs designed not to showcase elaborate action sequences, but simply to assault the audience's senses with flash and shaky cameras to convince audiences it's "action".

Goldeneye was the last good Bond flick.

Small things mostly... like someone trying to calm down the zombie child and suddenly getting bitten, the clash of groupthink when they're ordered to listen to the cop, the half assed escape plan they come up which is basically 'run through the building and get picked off one by one' instead of doing something that would have made more sense - and i guess the way certain things were filmed. We've seen things like that in too many zombie movies already... move beyond it i say. And personally i cannot stand it when a zombie film attempts to explain the zombification process.

Don't get me wrong though, i liked it. I like most zombie films, and this one was pretty good overall

I didn't think the little girl bit anyone. Didn't she just puke on her mom and run upstairs? Also, I don't know what else they could've done for an escape plan. I thought the idea of "get to a safe place and wait" was their best option. They knew the apartment upstairs was "unoccupied" so that was their best bet.

Yeah but they ended up there accidentally, they were initially searching for the keys to the sewers and a way out, through the cops... which made no sense. I would have appreciated a 'get to a safe place and wait' plan, but there was none of that. The kid bit that one dude that was trying to inject her with something.
