It's an RPG, you need points in the type of weapon you use most. They're also effected by SPECIAL. Agility for small guns, which also gives you more action points to use in vats. Luck also increases chance to crit, thus less bullets used.

I usually use melee for shit that doesn't have a weapon. Especially in the beginning when you don't have alot of ammo. You can bind different weapons to keys by holding a number key and selecting a weapon in your inventory. Also works for armor, and probably just about everything else including stimpaks. Most of the time the enemies weapon is weak, and you can destroy it in vats making them useless. Helps especially for assholes with rocket launchers.

Oh, and make sure you keep your weapons in good condition. They do less damage over time. Plus some enemies have weaknesses, like the mirelurks face, or ants antennas.

Does anyone else find the levelling a bit odd? I've got to level 4 without really having done anything and haven't really managed to improve my character much. Plus, how come you don't get the double points bonus on your major skills anymore. Plus there's a bit of a problem with a poor lockpocking skill being much more of a handicap in this one than it ever was in the first two.

Plus, someone's decided to make weapons degrade as if system shock 2 had it right all along (it didn't)

You wont be able to just walk over DC to it easily. Set it as your active objective and then follow the map. It will take you through at least one subway. Nothing bad about that because to get to it, you have to fight one super massive mutant and you get a few books on the way.

Also guys, quick tip... ANY "pre war" books your find, pick them up. Theres a lass in the old library that buys them off you. She gave me 700 caps for FIVE of them. Very easy way to make money.

Its shit in the same way Oblivion was shit... Because you can pretty much say good bye to everything else while playing it. I've only had it what, a week? And I've already put 25 hours into it... Crazy...

Enjoying this so far. It's basically post-apocalypse oblivion.

Not as solid as oblivion so far unfortunately. The inventory stuff is a step backwards, the environment isn't nearly as lush (I guess you can't get away from gray and brown given the scenario), it's not as big (no way is the map as big as oblivion).

Still I don't mind.... When oblivion was done I kinda wanted a mix-up of the same sort of thing and this is it.

yeah, but oblivion was the same square mile over and over, full of nothing. I think they have everything spaced out about right in this one. The style does feel more like Bethesda than black isle, which is a tad disappointing, and they seriously just need to shoot their animation department...

I don't think the inventory is really any worse than unmodified oblivion

I am enjoying it, but as with Oblivion, it gets a bit boring at times. I am also not a fan of the combat. I like my RPG's to be old school. I loved the old Fallout and the way it was turn based, and it's a shame that PC games will never be like that again because of the need to make millions to get any kind of return. They have to make them console-ish.

Also with the easy access to the console I am finding it waay to easy to cheat. VATS works great in god mode with unlimited AP.

i think there was more turnbased going on on consoles than on pcs, historically speaking.

I died and ran back to where I had died. None of the enemies respawned and once I looted a key quest item ahead of time the game froze on my PS3 and I had to power down with the switch on the console. :tear:

Otherwise its a sweet game. I'm a smooth talking, computer hacking, lock picker :)

I'm finding Fallout lacking in stuff to do in a given area.... the major locations like Megaton seem a lot smaller than the town in oblivion. Also the city areas are dissapointingly cramped and linear... would have liked a bunch of wide open city blocks to explore but there's mile-high rubble to all sides :(
I don't think the inventory is really any worse than unmodified oblivion
Would have preferred it to be divided into sections to keep stuff neater. That's my only major gripe.

Ok, I think I must be a super geek or something...

I just hit the level cap :(

Level 20 is far to fucking easy to get, what were they thinking...? I've had to use the console to downgrade my level so I can gain XP again and get the other perks... What the hell kind of stupid ass idea was that...

Yup. Thats max. After that, you cant level up, get any EXP, you cant get higher HP or AP, or carry more, you cant get any new perks...

All you can do, is find bobble heads and books. Thats it.

Sucks...

The main story isnt the best, but the setting, quests, and whole system is really good. Like I said, the only issue is the level 20 cap, which now makes me feel a little less like "gotta play" and more like "whats the point...?".

there's no grinding. Major plus point.

The level cap is annoying, but I have to say that, actual gameplay wise, it feels a lot like a proper sequel to deus ex (including crappy AI and dodgy animations, heh)
