quake 3 freezing

Hello i have been having a strange problem with Quake III Arena.
Every time i launch the game i get into the map (mp and sp) and about 15 seconds into the game everything freezes...everything! and hitting ctrl+alt+del does not work either cuz my mouse freezes as well, and i cant close it via "processes" I can though move my mouse to lower right hand corner and choose to restart my computer (vista X64) . One thing i forgot to mention when i hit ctril+alt+del and go into the menu everything is really bright and the color correlation is messed up.

I tried fixing the problem by uninstalling quake 3 and then reinstalling it, i have the latest patch 1.32 but no avail.
Any advice? Im quite tired of quake live and want to play some ZTN

Could be anything, from flaky drivers to faulty hardware. You might want to download Enemy Territory (it's built on the same engine as Q3) to see if the problem persists.

i have teh catalyst driver 8.9 but this has never happened before.

I was having that same problem, only it would do it periodically. Then my RAM freaked out. Replaced the RAM. Haven't seen it since. I dunno

Ill try it one stick of ram and see if that work...be right back

still nothing i tried both stick of by themselves and still got the freezing.

I will update my catalyst drivers later.
