Shit like this is exactly why we'll end up having to deal with her in national politics. :(

I see why it's funny, mainly due to social convention.

Having said that, he's just killing a turkey. I bet 90% of the people who will complain about this will also be eating turkey come the american Thanksgiving.

I don't think anyone's gonna complain about that... the point is more that Palin apparently has someone in her retinue that goes to no length of trouble to put her in situations like this, so outlandish and goddamn weird in design that the mind boggles. What kind of conversations do these people have with each other?

"Hey Sarah, i scouted a prime location for the next photo op, a turkey farm so foul in every imaginable way that it will seem totally genuine to the viewers at home."
"Awesome!"
"We'll have this guy Bob elaborately manhandle a turkey behind you, we feel that it'll sufficiently distract from the issues you don't have a goddamn clue about whilst simultaneously appealing to your core voter base."
"Let's go!"

How did Palin seem nearly as ignorant as she has in the past, though? And much more importantly, how is the fact that liberals get queasy thinking about the way the animals they eat get murdered in any way translate this into a faux pas for a politician who already knows she's alienated that kind of voter?

Things like this getting widespread play is going to keep firing up the right and making Palin look like an innocent victim of cruel liberal mocking. The fact that someone thought this video needed to be uploaded to YouTube shows me that they are either pro-Palin or very, very stupid. :( Keeping Palin's name in the national consciousness does no one any favors.

To be honest Turing, i kinda went out on a limb there. I didn't listen to a word she said as i was fascinated by the turkey guy :)

And i don't really agree with the idea that not mocking a display of high powered weirdness like this will somehow cause people like Palin to disappear from the political stage. Ignoring dumb people who crave power doesn't make them go away, relentlessly making fun of them takes away their credibility much more efficiently.

But what you're missing is that no one in her base sees this as even remotely ridiculous, and honestly, no one should see it as ridiculous. She's willing to go down to where the grittiest parts of putting a turkey on the table are taken care of and talk with the folks there. I don't see it as any different from going to an auto factory, and the timing is sensible as well.

Taking innocuous shit like this and making it into lulz is only going to fire up the people who would support her that much more, and when it's done while she's saying things that make sense and pointing out that she kept her state's budget from going out of control just because they had more money? Well, that's going to fire them up even more.

I wouldn't be even remotely shocked to see Palin in the Senate in 2014, and this kind of mockery is exactly what's going to put her there. It honestly took me reading this thread before I even realized what people thought was so funny. lol, turkey farming, lolol, omg, did you know they have to kill turkeys guys.

So you're saying if we mock Palin from now to 2014 it'll improve her chances? How so when the only people who support her are in the vast minority? Will mocking her somehow increase her base? As a show of sympathy or sumat?

Yeah...like the fact that the more Tom Cruise did interviews the more people thought he was an intelligent, thoughtful person. :olo:

But hey, that's not what i find amusing about it at all. The lulz element for me comes from the fact that they're shooting a clip that has their candidate spouting standpoints or whatever in front of some dweeb killing turkey's, which is incredibly distracting and (because it's so clearly done on purpose and the turkey man was so clearly kept in the dark about it) flatout stupid. The term rank fucking amateurism springs to mind, and apparently none of the people she works with sees it that way.

It's not the same as going to an auto factory at all, it's more like going to Joe's Tow-a-Lot's and having some guy in the background incessantly bang a hammer against a piece of metal.

And do you really think Palin supporters are anything other than pure strain rednecks and dumbshit soccermoms? They're a minority, albeit a vocal one. But in the end too many republicans find her antics just as weird as i do, and too many people in her party blame her for playing a big role in losing the election. I wouldn't worry about her.

It's true, the people of Alaska clearly think she's some kind of idiot and would never elect her to an important state-wide office. :( You are truly a political genius.

The narrative is already starting up - she was unfairly maligned during the election, liberals made mountains out of molehills with various small issues, and McCain just wanted someone to pin it all on. She's the poor victim of the libril media, etc, etc.

I'm still not seeing anything during this interview that's remotely ridiculous. The fact that the guy in the background doesn't know what's going on simply adds to the fact that the piece is spontaneous and she didn't set up a perfect photo op. The fact that she had a 40% approval rating in mid-September the last time that I checked it doesn't really incline one to think that it's only completely dyed-in-the-wool rednecks who support her - or if it is, then you have a pretty broad definition of redneck.

Lots of folks out there still find her sympathetic, and piling it on is going to help people forget that McCain joined in, thus making her look like a victim of librilz.

Whatever. You're basically saying that Palin will have a chance because - after years of well-deserved mockery - people will feel sorry for her and give her broad, far-reaching power and access to the nuke button.

You're an idiot.

Senators aren't allowed to launch nukes unless there was some sort of change that I'm not aware of. :( Try to keep up, son.

Palin has no future in national level politics...even if she manages to snag a senate seat, she is really too vapid to be anything other than a lightning rod. The Republican establishment is just not dumb enough to hitch their wagon to her dogsled. Failed VP candidates are usually never able to recapture any momentum on the political scene.
