Settings problems

For some reason I keep on having to reset my settings every time i open quake because they keep on going back to default. I've been trying to look for reasons on the web and on forums but haven't found anything so far. Can anyone guide me to an existing topic that addresses this problem or help me solve it please?

Is the read-only bit set on your baseq3 folder or q3config.cfg?

I dont quite follow, I have the q3config.cfg file in my baseq3 folder. Do you mean the file attributes? My q3config file didnt have it checked... should i check it?
Oh and on my base folder is checked and i try to uncheck it but every time i look at it again its automatically checked again.

Yes, just set your q3config file to read only in file attributes.
