Roman Architecture

Main Index Page: http://www.simonoc.com/pages/materials.htm

Back in August I went on holiday to Rome and took a crazy amount of pictures (about 2000) which were not really organized into any special order. Over the last couple of months I have been trying to group them into relevant topics and gradually realeasing them on my website. The last set above took the most time to compile because it is a series of pictures I took for architecture reference / inspiration reasons and I wanted to explain why I liked them in the first place. Most of the pages (on the last picture set only) contain links to additional relevant images so the initial index of pictures is just a header to more.

I know this is not directly related to level editing but I thought it might be interesting to other designers that wanted some reference on different building structures from an old city. If this thread is not right here, please delete it admins.

Hope you enjoy the pictures and if anyone finds them useful I would love to see what they create from seeing them. Also if anyone finds any spelling or grammer mistakes please mail me because I would like to correct them.

Nice... I'm still sorting through 8000 photos that I took from my trip to China (search for my thread in General Discussions, though I haven't posted up the second half). I'd love to be able to visit Rome someday.

It took me ages to sort out the pictures and do the brief write ups, so thanks for letting me know what you thought of them. Do you have any favourites? ... I am curious! :P

I like all the Rome photos (last 2 sets). This one's almost surreal:

What kind of camera are you using?

Do you have a high resolution version of this one that you could send me? Good reference for a model I was (stopped) working on.

I have a very old camera (about 5yrs) and probably at the right age to be replaced. The camera has a 1Gb IBM micro drive, which at the time was amazing, nowadays you can get 8Gb on a flash card for a camera.

FinePix S602 Zoom digital camera

The angel picture with the sun behind it was just pure luck, right place, right time sort of thing. Certainly a cool picture. I have uploaded the high res versions to my site, they are roughly 2.5Mb each.

Angel statue 2

I did burn a couple of dvds (with about 2000 high res images) and sent them to a couple of friends but did not hear anything back. I assume there was too many pictures on the dvd and no explaination why. Which is partly why I did the brief write ups and grouping. If anyone wants any other high res images, let me know and I can post them to my site.

Yeah, if you drown people in fotos, they won't look at them. I usually take quite a lot fotos when I travel and it always hurts to cut like ~1000 of them down to 30-60 in the end.

Hah, I was there during august as well! We might have bumped into each other? :D

Oh god there were so so so many tourists. Very nice pictures, I still haven't bothered in fixing mine up, guess I will now thanks to your inspiration!

Thank you, keep rocking :D

voodoo, it was so hot and everywhere we went was swarming with tourists. I should have read the tourist guide first, don't visit Rome in August because it is too damn hot. An amazing place with so much history.

Thanks everyone for your comments, if anyone wants a high res version of something in the album, let me know.

Are you building a Q3 level from this material?

I have no plans at the moment to build a texture set from these pictures but if you want a dvd copy of the images for your own use then let me know on my email address. (mememe[at]simonoc[dot]com)
