I need a new drama thingy to watch
I just finished and loved every minute of BSG but I've hit the mid season finale now and have nothing to watch.
What should I watch now? I rather enjoyed a mini series called The Secret Room and I make sex wee over Six Feet Under. The Sopranos was good but I lost thread of it half way through by missing a season or two and can't really be bothered to start that one off again. I'm a casual fan of Lost and Heroes bores me. Recommend me something good. I'm considering Firefly

If you want something seriously, seriously awesome you should watch The Shield. It's a cop drama but with a definite twist. The series just ended last week after 7 seasons. Honestly, one of the best television programs I've ever seen.

breaking bad
Re: I need a new drama thingy to watch
Definitely watch Firefly followed up with Serenity.
Unfortunately it's only one season.
I've been watching Top Gear (British version, not sure if the American version is out yet, but it probably sucks anyway).

Yep, Firefly is a winner. Supernatural is excellent if you get past the pretty shallow season 1.

Yeah...The Shield is really good. Firefly is definitely worth checking out. The new season of Law and Order is also pretty good.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Heroes has turned to shit.

Season 4 is really fucking boring though.MKJ wrote:Mazda and Doombrain in The Void

Yeah, all the bad guys turned good (Sylar) all the good guys turned bad (Nathan) and they have too many plot changes that don't go anywhere (Peter getting Sylar's "hunger" only to lose them one or two episodes later). I'm not sure what direction the show's writers are going with all of this, but it seems to go around in chaotic little circles.

Re: I need a new drama thingy to watch
All of these shows are currently between seasons or canceled but well worth digging up:
Sons of Anarchy
Breaking Bad
Rescue Me
Damages
Rome
Tudors
Entourage
Farscape
Nip/tuck
For some reason I like Numb3rs but it's nothing special.

depending on how mindless you're ready to get, you could try 'the unit'. avoid any drama made by the bbc. they make nothing but glossy, didactic piffle with 2D character these days, and their writers need a crash course in how not to suck mammoth donkey balls
also: true blood (it's finished on TV but you know where to look)
and finally, yes, heroes has vanished up its own arse

never really liked heroes - only watched first season.
Art direction was awesome, and story wasn't bad, but the acting, dialogue and characters were boring, cept for hiro and his buddy.
and fuckin mohinder - what a bore.

For me Heroes simply hasn't delivered on its big promise: Heroes. This show should be called "People with Extraordinary Powers" and then it would seem fitting.
These people have spent 3 seasons doing nothing but "saving the world" from their own mess. This current plot arc of "self-discovery" and "who are my relatives" has gone on way too long...and it's still in the second act. Do I have to wait until season 7 before they actually become worthy of being "heroes"?
***SPOILER ALERT****
Sylar has become an asshole again in the latest episode...perhaps now "the nemesis" will actually become one...cause I'm ready to fall asleep.

Oh...and if you want to watch gripping drama where the characters struggle with life, struggle to get along, fight against oppression and showcase a vast range of love-hate relationships...nothing on the airwaves can beat the Trailer Park Boys.
Re: I need a new drama thingy to watch
Heh... that reminds me, they should rename Heroes to H'emos.
Hiro remains as the only worthy watching character on that show. They should just make the show about him. Like in the last episode. He single handedly saves the day. Again.

Re: I need a new drama thingy to watch
Farscape has been the best show to grace SciFi since the channel came on the air, followed closely by Stargate SG-1. They went for 4 and 10 seasons respectively. If you watch both, watch Farscape first. Some people say SG-1 went to shit after the cast was mixed up after season 8 ended, and in all honesty you can stop watching at the end of season 8 and the series could be considered wrapped up, but some characters from Farscape took over the lead roles in SG-1 which made it just as enjoyable to me as the previous seasons. They're completely separate universes with no ties to one another, but it just so happens that the actors play pretty much the same characters as they did in Farscape (which is a good thing IMO).
I can't say enough good things about Farscape. The acting is top-notch, the makeup and costumes are superb (considering the special effects from a decade ago), the writing is great and the stories told are involving. The best thing about the show is that they were able to finish the story and wrap up most loose ends, rather than have the show get canned mid-plot. It was very satisfying and I found myself totally engrossed. If you like sci-fi shows even a little, you are doing yourself a disservice by not watching it. In fact, after having written that, I may have to dust off my DVDs and give the show another go for nostalgia's sake...
Firefly is another great show to watch. The creator of Buffy, Joss Whedon, is the man behind this show and it's immediately evident, particularly in the dialog. In fact, the main character in Firefly, Mal, was a villain from a season of Buffy. It's funny at times, serious and dark at others, and always entertaining. The individual episodes aren't too formulaic, either, which is refreshing. It's a shame the show only went 1 season and so much was left unfinished (FOX are bitches and kill good shows all the time), but at least they managed to get a movie out of it.

Are you guys serious about The Shield?
I think it's complete shit. Generic characters, cliche dialog, completely predictable story lines. What's the appeal?

that show took a bit of a hiatus, i gave up hope until someone told me it was back on... MAN! that show owns me hard.
Re: I need a new drama thingy to watch
first ep of sons of anarchy was pretty ok. surprised that with the graphic visuals and subject matter there isn't a single fuck or cunt in the whole thing, which after true blood and dexter is a really noticeable absence
Re: I need a new drama thingy to watch
Slightly OT, butt...
I tried enjoying Mad Men, because it came highly recommened by a friend whose opinions I usually share.
I watched the first two episodes and then concluded it just wasn't my thing.
He maintains it's a very well written show, and I should stick with it a little bit longer in order to appreciate it.
I'm curious to learn what you guys think.
Is the show worth investing more time in, even if you don't get 'grabbed' by the first two episodes?
