I've tried to install a new hd on, first an hp, and now a gateway. On neither one did it even offer to boot the os disk. When I put the disc that came with the new hd, it starts reading from the cd drive and does a bunch of stuff on screen. When it gets to the point in this photo, it stops. It's been like this for an hour now. I'm thinking... since it did the exact same thing on two different brands of comps, it's some sort of setting problem? I'm stumped. The mobo is reading the cd rom and the ide hd. Any suggestions? (Other than "go take a flying..." )
edit: Oops. Forgot the photo.

I think the disc is a bios type thing. I set the boot config same as my dell. I think I have a setting wrong, but this disc that came with the drive said to use it if the os disc didn't boot. It just get to "Attempting PM ATA Identify" and stops. When the os disc is in, not a sound from the cd rom. When this disc is in...whirring and clicking and info till this step. I'm absolutely stumped.
since when do discs come with new HD's?
only in mexico ?
Appearantly, only in Sacramento... which is a step below mexico, if yuh ask me.

whats a NTLDR? I got it to load that disc. Suddenly it asked if I wanted to "prepare" the comp for the drive. I said yup. It tried rebooting and now it says the NTLDR is missing. Huh?

The ram tested fine, ax. I learned to check that a few fiascos ago.
Hey SoM. That link taught me a few things. It also did the trick. I changed out the ide cable to an 80 pin, and reset the bios to default. I'm installing now. Thank you very much. Cheers to you, sir.
