I could. But unlike some i like my shiney box and discs as well.

I suppose i could buy it, and add my key to steam, assuming GTA supports that through steam. If not, welp, gg no GTA 4 for me.

NOt like it matters. Its a horrible buggy piece of shit.
When my box can run crysis, farcry 2, and basicly every other game out at max detail, but people with 5X the hardware i have cant get 30fps out of GTA, theres something wrong.

Ill wait, Itll get patched, and cracked, R* isnt getting a dime from me on this one.

All you need to do is turn off the dynamic shadows, which are a massive framerate killer, and disable vsync - smooth as you like even on a 8800 GTS. Dunno why the fuck they enabled those shadows by default, they're pretty but they're responsible for every single "unoptimised" claim the nerds have made.

Yeah, shame theres no proper "fix" for it. *Wink wink*

But honestly with all the anti piracy shit they added, they lost a sale from me. I was just gonna go buy it since 14gigs is a bit to download, but f it, yet another game for PC im not paying money for thanks to a bunch of shitty copy protection.
there is, but i cant mention the website

Because shadows are fun?

To return to the topic: if you turn off the shadows and vsync, it runs like a dream on even a pretty modest graphics card, and it's a pretty good game, more like GTA 3 than either of the two recent games. Liberty city looks absolutely jawdropping (I have it set up so that my view distance is three times what you get on the console versions, with much more traffic and a better framerate. It's definitely worth a shot, even though the shooting sections still suffer from the way that rockstar's trying to perfect a system that was never that great to begin with.

Oh, and it's only crashed once on me so far. Broken, my arse

Curiously why?

What do you spend each month on entertainment? I mean, 50 or so bucks isnt really a big deal right? So why is it "sad"?

gta4 PC = one of the worst ports ever. I can understand crysis is demanding because the visuals are fucking intense, but gta4 is just code written by fools. might have tried some half-baked xbox 360 emulation or something for the PC engine.

Runs like shit, very disappointing compared to the Xbox version. Given the other ports I've played seem to run and look a lot better, this just seems lazy.

5 as a recommended score for Vista for this? Mmmmno.

I also like how the user can't be trusted to select their own detail settings, that's fucking RIDICULOUS.

I'll revise that statement, I've fucked about with the settings and managed my own expectations a bit... it runs okay and doesn't look bad.

Wierd problem with no sound outside of the car though, all you can hear is the readio and the cut scenes, there's no ambient sound at all.
