I'm going to check the sound thing again, I'm hoping it's a reboot thing. Standby seems to do funny things to this computer occasionally.

Spec btw:

CPU: Intel Q6600 (stock speed)
MB: Asus Maximus II Formula
RAM: 4 x 1GB Corsair DDR2 (800MHz)
Gfx Card: GeForce 8800GTX 768MB
Sound: On-board X-Fi

I wouldn't write it straight off, but if you can try it first then do so.

I'm pretty sure my computer can handle it, but it sounds really buggy, plus now when the initial hype as died down, more people seem to see the game for what it is and it is rather flawed, not the OMG 10/10 it was made out to be at launch.

it's the 's' at the end that makes this really sad

Curiously why?

What do you spend each month on entertainment? I mean, 50 or so bucks isnt really a big deal right? So why is it "sad"?
Well in my book, time is more valueable than money, so that argument won't really stand. Multiple wow accounts must be quite an investment time-wise.

In the brief time I've spent on it, it's just GTA as usual, nothing more or less, enjoyable enough if you have the time. Now I've rebooted that's solved the sound issue btw.

That's just retarded and a definite deal breaker.
A game should let you at least configure controls and quality settings.
wtf do they care if you would like to run it @ 5 fps?

I meant to mention that, it should be the user's choice whether or not they want to play it as a high quality slideshow. It might even entice them into upgrading if they can see what it was meant to look like on the platform. I can't see a genuine positive from nerfing the prefs.

I have to agree that enforcing the preferences is a bit dumb especially given that the single biggest performance killer is on by default. Still a good game and not actually that buggy, though

Prince of Persia has taken over my gaming time, however

It definitely is retarded, but add -norestrictions and -nomemrestrictions to the target field for the LaunchGTAIV or GTAIV shortcut, whichever you use. This is definitely one of the worst console ports I've ever see when it comes to performance. The most stable frames for me are with textures on medium and the rendering on highest.

System runs Crysis and Warhead at over 45fps on highest settings, but GTA IV gets stuttering if I force the textures on high. The game's a ton of fun though, even with all of Rockstar's fuckups.

Honestly, i work 40+, spend time with my GF, and have a bird to take care of. I really dont spend "alot" of time playing anymore. I simply keep most the account active just because i 'might" play a char on one of them at some point. I might play 5 hours, a week. If i have a shit ton of time off i might play more, but its rare.
