DSL

Post by Therac-25 »

Finally got sick of the Rogers cap, and the Rogers hijacking of failed DNS lookups.

I just signed up with these guys : http://www.teksavvy.com/ , for the 5M Unlimited plan.

I got my mom signed up with them in the summer when she moved (I wasn't going to let her sign up with Sympatico...). Anyway, everything has gone awesomely for her, especially on the support side of it. She's been able to solve problems and interact with them without my help. It's a nice change from Bell and Rogers support, where you need an interpreter to describe the details of how they're trying to screw you this time (when she tried signing up for Teksavvy the first time round, apparently Bell had already been hooked up for her, because some highly ethical salesperson had managed to sell her DSL without her knowing. Teksavvy support managed to be both useful and not even slightly Kafkaesque in dealing with it).

I used DSL ages ago (2000, I think) when Sympatico first showed up where I lived. It was a horrible nightmare speed and service-wise, and the pppoe module in Linux was a mess at the time. So anyway, I hope it don't suck now. If they do suck, it's kinda too late to warn me, as I've already paid... but telling me I suck would be helpful.

I've been using TekSavvy for a while now. So does Mazda and Amidy has been on and off of it (some local problems with his DSL or something). Excellent service, fast speeds (no throttling) and about $20 cheaper than Bell or Rogers. It really is a win-win situation switching to them.

Well, it's on it's way. It was certainly a better option than shovelling more money into Rogers -- I'm on Express right now (with the 60G cap), and paying $10 more for 35G more seemed like a retarded move.

Not to mention the fact that their cap policy simply charges you (to a max of $25/month) more for going over. I know I blew the cap out of the water last month, and this month's billing cycle isn't half over, and I've already gotten the 75% warning...

So, yeah, now I have to try and avoid generating 15G of traffic until the DSL modem gets here... yeah, fuck Rogers.

After finishing with Rogers, the phone display reads 29:55. The actual conversations took up around 1:30 of that.

You made the right choice as far as unthrottled, no-bullshit internet goes.

Bookmark this link if you ever have questions or comments for their customer reps or CEO even.

EDIT: Although it's no guarantee that you won't be throttled, since TS has to use Bell's lines. TekSavvy tries to fight for the unlucky people who are suffering from slow P2P speeds. I personally have never been throttled.

the issues that i'm/was/continue to have are not Their issue, its something to do with the house that I'm in now and i'm yet to find it... I've re-wired the whole house trying to find it :)

Though, i would Say A+++++ for choice, These guys are fan-fucking-tastic to deal with, the speeds are Great ( well, mine arnt at the mo :) but the people that i've recommended are FLYING! )

Just FYI, if you use some P2P and etc, You will experience some throttling, its not TS doing so, its Bell...
Google Techsavvy and MLPPP And you will find a Great work around :)
