MGS4 on PS3
Re: MGS4 on PS3
I think the only one that really made my jaw drop was the one with the bike bit, on the docks with the boats?
That was grade A fucking awesome source right there.

I felt the exact same way for the first half to 3/4 of the game. The problem I found is that eventually the next gen gaming takes a BIG backseat to next gen cutscenes.Doombrain wrote:Ok this game’s fucking awesome; it’s what I’d expect next gen gaming to be. I don’t mind the cut scenes, in fact I find them totally immersing.
Re: MGS4 on PS3
For me, mgs died with the ps2...
Re: MGS4 on PS3
i loved it. the bit with psycho mantas was hilarious! "Snake plug your controller into port 2" lol

I used to host games when I played. It's pretty addicting at times.FragaGeddon wrote:Anybody tried multiplayer?

Re: MGS4 on PS3
MG4 used the same everything... Same names, people etc. It sounds like you didn't quite catch on, seeing that the game came full circle to be a semi retelling of MGS1.
Just without the great gameplay, and with movies that went on far too long.

Re: MGS4 on PS3
i didnt quite pay attention to mgs4 so thats why. in that case, its not quite as gay.

Re: MGS4 on PS3
Twin Snakes was GCN wasn't it? That was just a remake, nothing more. Very well done though.
Re: MGS4 on PS3
you should try the Twin Snakes version on GameCube.tnf wrote:I almost got pissed off when it said to insert the next disc because I had rented it and thought maybe the store had fucked up.fKd wrote:i loved it. the bit with psycho mantas was hilarious! "Snake plug your controller into port 2" lol

Psycho Mantis checks your memorycard and points out every game you've played from Hello Kitty to Resident Evils

Re: MGS4 on PS3
Another necro! Only just now catching up with a lot of games I've missed from the past ~2-3 years.
It also pokes fun at oldschool disc swapping. I actually got up and went looking for the case thinking "ehh I don't recall seeing two discs wtf?!" before I realized it was a joke.

The cut scene to gameplay ratio is way off, but it doesn't matter. People kept touting games becoming interactive movies early in the decade, and nothing is closer to that paradigm than this game. It's not a bad thing that games like this exist. I wouldn't want every game I played to be like this .. but when it's done right, it works. This game works.
I'm not a huge fan of the series. I played MGS on the PC (enjoyed it), never played 2 or 3. I got this because of the rave reviews it's been getting. I started it about a month ago, got halfway through Act 1 and couldn't be bothered playing on. It wasn't doing it for me at the time. Picked it up again yesterday morning, and haven't been able to set it down until I finished it a few hours ago.
Because I haven't played all the previous games, much of the backstory was lost on me .. but you can pick up the gist of it from MGS4. The cut scenes were absolutely sensational, this is one of the few games that's gotten me emotionally invested in the characters.
I love the fact that you play an old guy. He's not a typical hero character anymore, but we know that he used to be. I think he looks more badass than he's ever looked before. His mustache is cool. The world needs more mustaches.
I realize I may be babbling. But it's only because of how good this game is.
srsly
Can't tell if this is serious or not, but I'll bite. It doesn't use the gag, though it does poke fun at it. You fight a boss called Screaming Mantis and someone calls you up during the fight and tells you to switch ports as per the old Psycho Mantis fight. Then someone else calls up and says you can't do that anymore, PS3 doesn't even have ports to switch etc etc. You also get brief cuts in the action, the first displayed a green "HIDEO" in the corner, the second showed the Konami and Kojima logos.MKJ wrote:and mgs4 uses the same gag as msg1 did, with psycho and the controller thing?

Re: MGS4 on PS3
Quick side note: In December 2001, I was completing MGS2 an average of 3-4 times a day from start to finish and was rated in the top-10 fastest clear times on Konami's official MGS2 rankings.
OK carry on.

This line only remake is total rubbish I've ever seen!!! Fuck off!!! --CZghost

Re: MGS4 on PS3
Play the game mikaju ^0^ it's really good.
Mild spoiler alert! This little video from near the end of the game showcases the interactive movie concept quite well.

It doesn't give away much of the story, but it's easy to infer plot details from it if you're perceptive (I guess).
