Wireless adapters

Post by Chupacabra »

Does anyone know if on average a USB wireless adapter is on par with a wireless network card? Does it make much of a d ifference which one you use? TIA :)

No. They are generally crap. I bought one and returned it just a couple of days later.

I've never had one personally, for the same reason I've never owned a USB DSL modem (they seem to introduce unnecessary complications/abstractions), but I've had to help a lot of people out with their wireless networks after buying them, and 9 times out of 10 taking the adapter back and buying an internal PCI card fixed all the problems.

if you Buy a cheap one, you get cheap shit..

i run my Crap-lap off of a USB wireless card, and it eats a few Cpu cycles under load, but it works great.

Oddly, I had the opposite experience. Maybe I just got bad cards the twice I tried, but I just couldn't get them connected (on XP).

A D-Link USB one, while not sexy, worked fine.
