burning a 6.54gig video file on DVD's?

Post by ToxicBug »

How can I do this? Is it possible to split it into two parts?

If it's just a video file, instead of DVD files or an iso, you could just split it and author your own DVD with one file on each (assuming you want to use it as a DVD and not just as storage).

You could also reencode it with lower quality so it fits.

Or you could not be cheap and buy some dual layer DVD-Rs.

I have DL DVD-R but they're at my parent's house :)

Its a .mkv file, I don't want to re-encode it, but I was wondering if nero can split it so that it will fit on 2 disks? I'm going to be using it on the computer, not with a DVD player.

I don't know if Nero will split it up into separate files, but it can re-encode it. If it's just to transfer the files to another computer to be put together again on the harddrive, try using 7zip or WinRAR to split the file into separate archives.

Bah, whatever, I'll just burn it onto a DL when I get them from my parents.

For mkv files, there should be something here to split them up.

He doesn't want to compress the video, so no to DVD Shrink.

I did just a little searching, but can't tell if my burner supports burning dual layers. I have an Optiarc DVD+RW AD-7604S ATA. Any help?

Closest model number i can find. All the Optiarcs appear to do DL, so you should be good. My internal drive is five years old, and it burns DL with no issues. Unless you bought yours just as DVD burners were starting to exist, you're fine.
