ATI T200 Unified AVstream Driver

Post by vesp »

"This Device Cannot Start"...

I have no idea what's going on here (no new installs or anything), but a few days ago I noticed I had no sound in TF2 - duly checked my control panel and it tells me I have "No Audio Devices". Ok. So a PC restart later, I boot up tf2 again and all is as normal. Then I quit and am browsing news sites when I realise I have no streaming video sound and iTunes won't even load up.

I check my device manager and the only :!: mark is next to this ATI T200 Unified AVstream driver (which apparently cannot start), of which I can only find problem posts dating ~2006 and zero hard solutions.

Anyway, wiped ATI drivers from my system, reinstalled using latest downloads and still the same problem :(
Reinstalled the onboard audio drivers also (although no problems shown with them, couldn't hurt...) still same problem :(

Anyone else had this and have a possible fix?

cheers in advance for any replies.

(system running XP, ATI RadeonHD2900XT, Asus p5wdh deluxe mobo with onboard Realtek audio)

edit: I know there's something weird here because I still hear windows sounds through the speakers (sounds for erroneous clicks and even the logout jingle etc) - this is still with ctrl panel-> Sounds&Audio telling me I have no audio devices.

not clear -- is the audio being done by the ati card, or by the onboard card? i.e. is the problem that the ati drivers don't work, or that they're messing up the realtek drivers (because not working is old hat for ati drivers -- they need to fuck other things up to keep their reputation intact).

can't find any successful fixes of this problem. the only promising advice was to make sure that the card is getting enough power from the PCIe connectors -- according to a random, anonymous forum poster on the internet (the best source of advice) that might be an issue.

Yeah I came across the power issue too, unlikely to be the root cause as I've got wattage to spare with my current psu.

As far as audio hardware goes, I only have the realtek stuff on the asus mobo (I was surprised that there was even an ATI audio driver on the device manager list). I'm still not sure what the purpose of the ATI drivers are, just focussed on them due to the not working flag. They come bundled with the ATI catalyst driver download.

go to acer site and upgrade your motherboard drivers.

could be a weird bios setting turned on by accident or a bios tweak that is causing you pain, grief and suffering

Still no solution, going to end up having to wipe the drive and reinstall everything from scratch.

f5 on windows boot

before wiping try a system restore
