New laptop, have question

Post by andyman »

I was given a laptop that used to be a company laptop. I have admin access and everything, and I am wondering if it is possible to mirror all the settings from my desktop to the laptop. I understand that I'd have to have all the same programs already installed on the laptop, but is there a program that will mirror all windows and program settings or how would I do that?
Basically, I would like to make this laptop a portable desktop.

TIA

I'm assuming both systems are using XP 32-bit? If so:

Windows File and Settings Transfer Wizard

Alright, completely stuck again.

The laptop is used and from my stepdads office so it was setup as part of a domain. Because of this, I couldn't use the file and settings transfer over my network. I didn't know how to reconfigure, so I reinstalled XP Pro SP2 on it to start fresh.

Now that it's all installed, the fucking network connection doesn't recognize the built in network port! The only network connection it sees is the 1394 connection and it says it's always connected even if the cable is out, and it won't get IP settings like it's supposed to. Basically it's being a pain in the fucking asshole.

plz help, how do i fix??

Maybe network drivers for the motherboard?

This was the best I could find but didn't work...

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais ... 715|PSPA0U

when I click 'repair' in the connection status page I get this message:

"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:
Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed."

The port itself works, the green light comes on when I plug it in... this is cornfusing me.

you need to go get the drivers from the manufacturer website using another computer, then use a flash drive to put them onto the laptop and install.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try to get the original discs that came with it.
