No threads about the genocide in Palestine?

Sorry, Gandhi.
It's bedtime.

Re: No threads about the genocide in Palestine?
I'm saying that no one should be held to that standard under intense personal violence against people close to them (including Israelis). The reason I mention that Israel isn't held to that standard is simply to point out how absurd it is to take that position
fine, but thats not how It came across to me.
I know you're sensitive, and I'll try to be more considerate in the future.

Re: No threads about the genocide in Palestine?
reminds me of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gb_qHP7VaZE4days wrote:the palestinian populations include a collection of groups with differing goals working from the same areas. they don't have a command centre where some mastermind is coordinating rocket attacks (and who could offer their total surrender in the face of overwhelming odds), they have a bunch of random assholes making shitty weapons out of farming materials and scrap that are fighting amongst themselves when they're not launching pathetic and largely impotent attacks over the wall.

My point was made pretty clearly. If you couldn't decipher it, that's hardly my fault.busetibi wrote:I'm saying that no one should be held to that standard under intense personal violence against people close to them (including Israelis). The guy who posted right after me didn't have any problem understanding it.
Honestly I don't think you misunderstood it at all. I think you were obfuscating the point because you didn't like it. Hence the hyperbole about 6 million jews being killed, etc. etc.
How evil I must be, to interject a valid point that doesn't fall within your persecuted Jews defending themselves against the next Hitler storyline.

Shut the fuck up already.

lol, I know you're past it. That's the fine art of obfuscating over several paragraphs until the discussion is so watered down that you feel you can safely ignore the point - throwing in the chaff of a Nazi reference here and there for good measure.busetibi wrote:like I said, thats not how it came across to me,believe it or not, I'm past it.

Re: No threads about the genocide in Palestine?
just been watching this:
http://www.occupation101.com/
the first 10 minutes are entirely skippable mtv fluff and all the way through the production methods threaten to undermine the subject matter, especially the music - home/college-made nutterumentaries illegally use copyrighted music to great effect, whereas this struggles along with too much stock aural wallpaper. overall, it's a shame they didn't go for a much colder style. it would've been cheaper to make and frankly, i don't need some earnest piano jockey tugging at my heartstrings to hammer the point home while i'm watching children being shot in the back. but i guess that could be described as personal preference, so still a 7/10 if this was the movie thread.

Re: No threads about the genocide in Palestine?
I realize this matter is tiresome, but the CBS segment is remarkably candid for an American journalistic report.
Re: No threads about the genocide in Palestine?
but it's not saying anything new or anything that is not already known.
everyone knows about the settlements in the west bank and the problems they cause, maybe I'm missing the point

Re: No threads about the genocide in Palestine?
You're correct, however it does provide a small candid glimpse at views and experiences of palestinians wrt this conflict.

eye opening segment.
Re: No threads about the genocide in Palestine?
You don't think this refutes the idea that Israel is simply acting in self defense?busetibi wrote:but it's not saying anything new or anything that is not already known.

the rockets were coming from gaza not the west bank, hence the attack on gaza

Re: No threads about the genocide in Palestine?
Hypothetically, let's say after you've lived in a new neighborhood for a while, you go to your neighbor's house, force them out of their home and make them live in the next house down with another family.
Then a little later, they attack you from that house. If you go to that house, and kill everybody in it - including the family who always lived there, but didn't attack you -- can you say that you killed everybody there out of self defense?

Re: No threads about the genocide in Palestine?
Hypothetically,
I can understand why they would attack me, and I would only kill the people that attacked me, (even in normal life, if someone attacks me or my family I have the right to defend myself/family regardless of the why/what) If I killed the people in the house that didn't attack me then no I couldn't say I killed them all out of self defence.
*this was going to be an edit on my last post but I'll just put it here*
having said that, I can understand the security positon that Israel has/maintains in the west bank.
how long is it now since a suicide bomber has hit a school bus or shops.
Israel fears this and is acting out of self defence to stop it, I admit it's not the best/humane way but the only way as I can see it.
and yes, I wish they would stop building the settlements in the west bank, as I've said before they're causing lots of problems
