Okay this is a weird one for me but I was hoping someone could answer what causes this.

If i start quake 3 normally, the screen is a normal color (I think?), however if i vid_restart in fullscreen mode just once, or alt enter into a window, then alt enter back in, the grey screen that shows before the loading turns bright white, and quake becomes more colorful and vibrant. Everything is brighter and looks how it should (I think??) :ninja:

Is there a setting or something in the config files that triggers this? I was hoping for a way for it to be bright like that in window mode as well as not having to add vid_restart to the end of my config.

Yes I realise this isn't very important but it looks 10x better after this color change occours...

Try changing r_ignorehwgamma to 1 and change it back to 0 again and see if that's it. 0 is the default. You need to do vid_restart after changing it for the change to take effect.

I've noticed before that when running in windowed mode it looks darker but the skins of everything look better and I think it looks the same as r_ignorehwgamma 1 but I'm not sure. I play with a high visibility config now but when I was playing with "nice" graphics I would have liked to run it like that except the r_gamma command had no effect then and so the game looked too dark to see things properly :(

Let us know how it goes. If anyone knows how to get the gamma up with r_ignorehwgamma set to 1 say so here cause I'd like to try it. I know it's supposed to ignore the gamma but it'd the hardware "hw" gamma that it ignores and it doesn't look like r_gamma 1 caiuse the skins of everything look different like I said.

Edit: r_gamma 1 not 0. I forgot 1 is the default and thought it was 0 for a moment.

edit: i made all the ones i had in my cfg's 0 and now i dont have to vid_restart thanks for the help lol

I don't think r_gamma is useable with r_fullscreen "0"? I've never found a cvar to fix it. With r_fullscreen "1", I usually have r_gamma set to 1.0 to 1.3 at most. I did some beta testing for a mapper that made his maps so damn dark I'd have r_gamma at 1.4. It's hard to play with r_fullscreen "0"(for me) because it's to damn dark...unless it's a bright map I suppose.
