I bet this thread would look really good in the Quake 3 Discussion forum.

Just slip your email in our Quake Live thread and you'll probably get an invite in no time. They'll be more people playing that, I would imagine...

I don't know. I've timedemo'd my work imac (2.66 core 2, 2gb ddr2, 2400XT) with Vista and it's about 100fps less than my home desktop (x2 4400, 2gb 3200 ddr, 7600GT) with XP. The imac in XP was similar to home machine.

Quake live runs smooth and looks great as quake ever has... However, i just installed Quake 3 off the disc and installed 1.32 with it and the fps is choppy and performs like shit... Its the same engine so what do i have to do to make q3 run like quake live? theyre the same games basically!!!

PM your old account name and the email address you registered it with, and we'll see what the Powers That Be can do.

The game art is (mostly) the same, the game code is tweaked, the rendering engine is more or less the same, but much of the other code (net engine) has been more or less been hugely revised. They didn't just take Quake 3 Arena and slapped it on a server to call it a day, they did some pretty massive changes in the background.
