New Album (Ambient/Experimental)
New Album (Ambient/Experimental)
My debut album came back from the pressing plant a few weeks back and is now available. Not sure how many of you are going to be into this sort of thing, but I know a select few did express some interest when I finished it, so here it is.

On the exact opposite end of my usual breakbeat stuff, but there are many pies and each one needs a good fingering so to speak. Interestingly, the track "2249" I spammed on there very forums about 4 years ago. Opinions welcome.

Re: New Album (Ambient/Experimental)
I listen to a lot of ambient/experimental and that just sounds like a bad version of Final Fantasy VII music, possibly crossed with some generic trance
I couldn't get past the intro of most of the tracks I tried cause I disliked them so much.

Re: New Album (Ambient/Experimental)
What kind of ambient/experimental do you listen to? I must admit, i've had a bit of feedback on the album and haven't heard it described as FF7 or trance musicDTS wrote:I listen to a lot of ambient/experimental and that just sounds like a bad version of Final Fantasy VII music, possibly crossed with some generic trance

placed my order. love the down tempo sound you have going on based on the samples. are you shipping these out yourself or do you have a third party handling all that?

I'm doing everything myself for the moment, because past "issues" with distributors have left me a little bit weary of the whole distribution model. I love music on physical formats like cd/vinyl, but i'll also be glad when everything goes digital, because distributors have way too much control in the industry and have ripped off artists/labels for decades. Loads of indie distros shut down in the UK recently and it pretty much killed some of the labels who relied on them and didn't get paid. No doubt their records/stock were lost too.

LOL brisk, baby, don't put too much worth into DTS' posts/opinions (if they can even be called that). not sure how much you follow this forum anymore but he's a bit of a "negative nancy" and will pretty much try to rip into anything he doesn't 100% identify with.
anyways...
a local producer/musician i know just released his second album. mister chill'r. check out some of his works here: http://www.myspace.com/misterchillr
he actually got pretty good reviews on his first release. i had the chance to listen to the pre-release of his second album a few months back and i have to say its a trip to listen to all the way through. the tracks on his myspace are actually a bit second tier to the more standout tracks on his second album.

What Foo said
Inspired by my hip hoppy friends i spent some time messing with Reason 4.0 the other week, trying to get it to play sounds, but the near autistic depth of the program depressed me to no end... it appears to be the kind of thing you can dive in and spend years on and still not get it right

Re: New Album (Ambient/Experimental)
I used Reason 4 a bit for the album. I love that program, it clicked with me immediately, especially the automation controls, which are as good as anything else i've ever used. If you're just starting with music production, there are a million and one things to learn and that is what kills it for most people. Stick with it, it'll make sense eventually.Ryoki wrote:What Foo said

I listen to Paxahau.brisk wrote:What kind of ambient/experimental do you listen to?
I'm just not afraid to criticize things that are rubbish. Which you are; either that or you are unable to tell what's rubbish and what isn't. *shakes head*Grandpa Stu wrote:LOL brisk, baby, don't put too much worth into DTS' posts/opinions (if they can even be called that). not sure how much you follow this forum anymore but he's a bit of a "negative nancy" and will pretty much try to rip into anything he doesn't 100% identify with.
FWIW Stu, I was quite looking forward to hearing the finished version of that track you posted a while ago. What happened to that?

Re: New Album (Ambient/Experimental)
Thats a festival, not an artist. From what I remember, Paxahau has detroit/minimal techno events, which is about as far away from "ambient/experimental" as it comes. It is like me going into a death metal thread and saying it sucks because it doesn't sound like Blink 182.DTS wrote:I listen to Paxahau.brisk wrote:What kind of ambient/experimental do you listen to?

Criticism is fine by me, but it seems like you don't really know the audience this is aimed for. Think of artists like Pulusha, Steve Roach, Aphex, Burial, Alva Noto or Fennesz for the kind of thing I meant by experimental/ambient stuff.

Re: New Album (Ambient/Experimental)
My brother showed me how Reason works in his studio a few months ago. I was completely blown away, considering that the last music software I used regularly looked like this:brisk wrote:I used Reason 4 a bit for the album...

Keep up the good work.
Re: New Album (Ambient/Experimental)
Scroll down there's a "tune in" link on the right. It is an ambient/experimental/techno station aswell as events. They play Aphex Twin's stuff sometimes, one you listed.brisk wrote:Thats a festival, not an artist. You always came across as an egotist on these forums. So much so that I held back from posting a topic complimenting you on the usefulness of part of your site once, cause I thought that your massive ego could do without a boost.
Edit:
I wrote this post before I read your post DM, and was going to edit it into my other one, and posting it after yours looks different so I have this to say: If he's going to laugh and dismiss my presence here outright you should expect me to retort.Dark Metal wrote:I'm pretty sure he's done with you now, fool.

Re: New Album (Ambient/Experimental)
DTS, he's got to be autistic or just plain retarded.

And this just proves you have no idea how to interpret people over text.DTS wrote:

Another sign of autism.

Re: New Album (Ambient/Experimental)
Must be Retarded, because autistic kids are usually smart, but unable to express themselves. Dulltron on the other hand manages to express himself but it's obvious that he's just a hair above being a drooling vegetable.

Re: New Album (Ambient/Experimental)
I guess I must have upset Ultron back in the day and he has been patiently waiting all these years for his chance at retaliation!
Maybe if i'm lucky, Eonix/Methyd will show up too!
