What do patents have to do with any of that?Underpants? wrote:We are living in the age of miracle medicine. Chemotherapy is administered in localized treatments, and somewhere like 500% more effective than it was just 15 years ago. And stupid fuckers like Kanye West are getting bovine marrow matrix and coral to regenerate bones destroyed in careless accidents. Embrel is a godsend for people suffering from severe arthritis. People with diabetes can now get insulin through an inhaler. The list goes on and on, and where would the innovation be without patents? Not in some doper's back yard, growing naturally out of his cat shit fertilized wasteland, I'm betting.

Well, if you can't patent something then you can't be sure to make money off its creation (because somebody else can just copy your design). If you can't make money off of it, then many R&D places wouldn't have the economic incentive to develop them to begin with.

Re: Open Letter from Joe Rogan to Kellogg's on phelps and pot
Bullshit on the patent argument. You can patent plants, if you can prove you've created them.
Re: Open Letter from Joe Rogan to Kellogg's on phelps and pot
Guy's got a point.
OMG, MICHAEL PHELPS CAUGHT DRINKING BEER! WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!
Who gives a shit?
Underlying discussion is that weed is, arbitrarily, illegal in the states, which imo is quite hypocritical, seeing people *are* allowed to get fucked up on alcohol and prescribed drugs.

He's got a point, but it's the same point that's been argued for decades. It won't change anything.

Underpants, I don't know what you're rambling on about, but how would it hurt these people needing meds? They could still get their favorite medication, but they would also have another option, which is cannabis.

just calling out the nonexistent link between a pharmaceuticals and pot.
His argument regarding alcohol and pot holds water--alcohol is horrible if consumed without moderation. I'm just not convinced that it's a logical leap to introduce yet another mind and motivation altering substance into mainstream western culture. Will it improve anything in terms of quality of life or evolution of society, medically, scientifically or developmentally.

I don't think you realize that it's already been introduced. The people that want to use it already do. And if they legalize it, they would take the risk of being around dealers and scum. Plus the government would save billions that they spend trying to catch pot users. Also if they packaged it and taxed the shit out of it they could make a fortune. Possibly help pull us out of this economic crisis.
Re: Open Letter from Joe Rogan to Kellogg's on phelps and pot
Anyone think of the side effect factor? I mean, as compared to drugs that pot is said to be an alternative?

xer0s, please post valid sources for your information. Billions? on pot? it's a 50 dollar fine here in denver for holding up to an ounce (an ounce!), with no jailtime or other processing. Denver actually legalized it, but it's illegal at the state level. I'm under the impression that fining people (as with parking/traffic tickets, which is what this basically amounts to with your average "pot bust") actually generates municipal funds, not vice-versa...
Oh, and a link showing how pot has been introduced as a mainstream pasttime.
Also,
joe rogan does not qualify as an authoritative source, btw.

point is, it is not for the government to decide these things... ffs there's a lot more out there that's questionable medically, scientifically and developmentally. Why all of a sudden pot is the one thing everyone wants to play Mother Teresa with?Underpants? wrote:just calling out the nonexistent link between a pharmaceuticals and pot.

do you really take yourself this seriously? Wait, that's right you're the aggro (read: whiny) little prick who doomy offered to repair with a kick the living fuck out of session a while back, aren't you? That was just before you mysteriously disappeared for about 6 months or so?Memphis wrote:It's such a commonly used figure of reference I was only happy to use it after colouring it inI'm sorry if my regular use of expletives conveyed angry shouting and made Underpants spack-out, ditching spurious argument in favour of laughy icons and passive-aggressive sarcasm. Sorry if it makes you so angry that someone doesn't agree that you should be able to publicly get baked on your lunch break. Pine and angst about on your own time, you worthless little stain under the yugo of life. Most of us are busy with real adult issues these days.
