Dumbass news program completely misses point

Post by Grandpa Stu »

stolen from kotaku: http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/2008-2009/top_gun/video.html

OMG VIDEOGAMES ARE RUINING OUR KIDS!

i love how the parents repeatedly say, "it wasn't our fault. we weren't bad parents." and then say things like, "i went in there and tore the cables out of the wall." one of the golden moments is when they say the kid turned to games after being pulled out of hocky...by his father. oh and if your kid is packing a bag and saying he's running away, don't tell him to bring a warm jacket, give him a bloody cellphone.

it's painful to watch and the credibility is questionable when it's clear this investigator/reporter is using accusational questions on a topic she is clearly ignorant on. like when she's interviewing the red head lady and asks "but these games aren't clearly labled on their ratings. they don't even say why they're rated as they are." i mean, really? every game has a clear rating on the box and why it's rated that way. what do they want, big, red flashing letters that cover the entire box?

Yeah, you can basically replace xbox with any other possession being taken away, the kid thinking it's unfair, blah blah blah, since the beginning of time.

They wanted him to go outside more, but it was actually going outside that killed him. He fell out of a fucking tree. Wouldn't have happened if he was playing video games.

CBC has hit pieces like this occasionally. They produced one on ADHD that interviewed a modestly dissenting psychiatrist, some anti-med grandmum with her figdety-as-fuck tween, and a bitter schizophrenic 19-year old who despised being medicated as a kid.

Mansbridge is top cock in my book, but the taxpayers deserve better than what passes their editing process elsewhere.

Ummm...

-Game industry chick: "On every game box it has a rating that says, 'M' and it's quite clear."
-Interviewer cunt: "But it's not a warning that says warning parents, this is rated M and it's because there's violence, there's all these kinds of things you may not want your children exposed to.."

I'm looking at a few game boxes here right now, all are clearly marked on both sides. "Rated-M, Mature. Blood and Gore. Intense Violence. Strong Language. Game experience may change during online play. 17+."

She needs to do her research, like actually pick up a game box and look at it. I'm looking at my movie collection and half the movies don't have ratings. None of them have ratings on the front of the box. I have yet to see a book with some kind of warning on it.

parents day in and day out done care about ESRP ratings on games, and when you ask them they know nothing about it..

i have met ONE mother that knew about it, The rest of them didn't care, they where just getting a game/console/etc to shut the kids up.

Yeh... I watched this last night. Fucking embarrassing to witness. I LOVE the CBC ...have some great friends who work there who produce great documentaries....but last night was a nightmare, it was like watching FOX news. I honestly couldnt believe what I was watching.

Oh yah... The douche bag with the gray beard ...was the same "expert" who was there to solve mine and Red's "Marital problems"...( that we lied about to get on the TV show we filmed last year....so we could get 1000$. ) He's a fucking retard of Olympic proportions ... I'll wait till our show airs before I tell anyone about our experience with him in case we get sued for breach of trust. But I'll tell you this.. He is an expert of nothing.

couldn't watch the whole thing, bit pathetic and the same old same old. the clips of 13 year olds screaming douche bag at each other over the VOIP was it's usual funny. COD4 on the xbox must be like that 24/7; seems that only ADHD tweener kids play that rather than the PC version.
