QuakeLive CTF

I played CTF for the first time a couple nights ago, and I'm completely hooked. I'd heard people saying that TA was back, but never saw it in any of the gametypes. I didn't expect it to be mixed in with the regular CTF maps. I'd forgotten how much I miss TA.

If anybody's up for a game come find me - I'm jumping on for a little while now. :)

I haven't played as much Quake as I've done the past couple of days for a looong time. Quake Live has really brought the game back for me.

One thing that bugs me though is that all the Team Deathmatch servers seem to have friendly fire enabled. That's not exactly "standard" is it?

friendly fire on TDM is the norm. it's just that back when everyone and their grandma ran TDM servers they turned off friendly fire and set weapon spawn times to 1 second. the current TDM settings in QL are awesome for clan matches but for pub games its a bit tedious.

I see. I never knew TDM was played that way. It's just annoying that when you're in a firefight and your team mate comes barging in he'll shoot both your opponent and yourself with the RL.

i dont like the TA style CTF with all the different powerups.

Most of the ctf maps in QL at the moment are crap. It could really do with the threewave ctf maps.

They should force team balance. I've seen people refusing to balance out the teams on more than one occasion. I'm thinking it's to do with people not wanting to spoil their stats.

Also, Armor Regen? It took me three pickups before I realised it wasn't regenerating my ammo but my armor. Maybe it's better balanced now, but I wonder why I would pick up an Armor regen if there's a Guard still available? Or has the Guard been tweaked as well?

Agreed. When I play ctf, I try to jump onto the team with less people. What the phuq is the fun of the game if you only care what your stats say? Forced balance. :up:

I think it's great - even better and more balanced than it was in the TA days.

I love the 3wave maps as well though - it'd be great to see them in the rotations.

That's what /callvote shuffle is for. Pretty much every server I've been on got a shuffle vote when things were uneven, and I think I've only seen the vote fail once. My problem is that the shuffle settings need to be tweaked - but hey, it's still in beta.

Yea, the guard has been tweaked as well. It was pretty unbalanced in the original. Now it just reduces the amount of damage that is done to you when you're hit by a certain percentage. I'm not sure what the percentage is -- if it's less protection than full armor or not.

Also, more than one person can have the same powerups now - the PUs respawn.

They screwed TDM a bit. The weapon respawn rate is a lot higher than it used to be to make it more accessible. Makes the new drop weapon command pretty useless.

Armor Regen is better if you're going offense or something and don't think you'll be able to get any armors. If you are going to hang mid, and control a portion of the map, Guard is better.

Also, you can drop the flag now. If it's a stand off, and both teams have each others flag, Guard is the best one to have it, assuming they have time to run the armors and PU's in base.

must be less noobs across the pond. been playing CTF exclusively (at intermediate) and getting sick of people who don't vote/vote against a shuffle because they don't understand it/think you're tricking them. that, people not using PU's and people running around not knowing they've got the flag does my fucking swede in.

still, it's so good to have quake back <3

aye. been joining 'more challenging' games to see how i get on and it's been alright so far.

tried a few beginner games as well and was surprised at how level the playing field seemed. maybe intermediate gets lumbered with all the noobs that rate themselves highly after a few blasts on cod4.

just about every ctf game i've played has about 1 or 2 people on each team that knows how play with the rest running around like headless chickens. i cringe every single time i see some noob always wanting to get scout and then using it on defense.

i've also noticed that the flag pickup sound is bugged in that it often times does play if you're the one grabbing the flag. i had the flag drop down on my in vortex portal once and didn't even realize it for a few seconds.

I noticed that as well. I've once found myself running around holding the flag without knowing it.
