lego used to be the absolute bomb. a limited set of pieces but an unlimited amount of possibilities. nowadays the pieces you get with a model can only be used to build *that* model. bah

lots o upset-by-lego mis-imformedmorons in this thread regarding custom pieces

if a person has a very limited imagination, they can only use a spescialized piece for its desighned porpose bcuz they cant envision anything else , i understand that.

awesome models fb! i have one ugly spaceship thing from decades ago i want to see if i can locate it 4 a pic,its not as awesome as ur stuff tho!

lol... plained fell out of character and now he's redoubling his efforts.

Most specialized pieces are very reusable as long as you have a large enough of a kit. If you buy a small set with a dozen pieces and 4 of those are specialized, there's not much you can do with it, but if you use those with other kits, you can be quite creative. Otherwise, you might as well be playing with Duplo, eyyyy!

my advice to you whove felt burned by low piece count/custum/large piece kits

werent you/UR MOM savey enough to tell by the pic on the box that it was a learning/starter kit intended for starters/toddlers?

i suggest u discard ur anger toward them and share them with a very young person who hasnt lego'd yet.

i think those duplo/starter kits are very important in what role they play in bringing in new generations into lego

its obviosly been a success in doing so

I recommend having a gander through the archives... very illuminating :)

Lego is the greatest toy ever created, even if you yanks do fuck up and call em 'legos'... The official stance on the matters (straight from the Lego Group) is that 'Lego' is both the singular and plural form.

lego, legos
sheep, sheeps

I've known the proper form of the word for a long time, but I can't bring myself to say it, because, as an American, I'd feel like a poser. Like using "football" properly in public. I'd just get beat up.

As for the specialized pieces, I'm not saying you can't be creative with them, but I think it takes more skill to use the generic bricks to build something cool. Sure, I could use a set of palm tree branches to make a helicopter rotor, but it will look cooler with straight bricks, IMO.

Ahead of it's time perhaps. It had a visible cylinder block, (V8? - not sure) suspension, steering and even pop up headlights

I remember carrying it home in the bus after haggling to get the best price in town, and I did. It was something like $170 back then.

i love this story ur an awesome dad man!

I would get at least one big lego technic every christmas. I'm sure you guys remember the Lego Ferrari, Space Shuttle, F1 Car, and the big semi truck.

I tore all them apart after like 3 days though and made my own stuff. I had a toybox that was filled with over 3,000 dollars worth of legos and technics, but I never had enough right parts (or could find them) to make my creations symmetrical and the same color.

oh wow ey i found my old lego with like prolly the last thing i built in there

certainly not a piece to brag about!

its incomplete, it had a big front piece thing , a retractable starwars stle gun turret thing that retracted from the bottom, i also remember it had almost no lego dots visable, where there are dots now , when it was complete,
on tips o the sides, there were
rockets or gunstype stuff i belive

its lots of 70' pieces

it has some 3 engine battlestar galactica type thing going on, it was popular on tv back in the day

I didn't' have enough of the right colors, so I actually had to paint some of the more unique pieces to make that model.
