New id game
Re: New id game
Maybe, yeah... Maybe its just "new stuff" they are showing regarding current IP's. What he said could be taken quite a few ways.

I guess I better buy a blu-ray drive

What the fuck I only clicked once.

Re: New id game
Its shipping on 2 DVD's for PC, you won't "need" a bluRay drive. But I have heard they want it on BluRay for PC too...
Either way if that second disk kills it for you when you install it once, sure, pay out for an expensive useless drive

Re: New id game
It is shipping on 3 dvd's, not 2.
Re: New id game
Three on PC, where it can be compressed on the disk and then decompressed on the HDD, compared to two disks (Two wastelands) on the 360...?
What the hells the point in them making the files larger on PC
Either way, it could ship on 5... Who cares...? Have we all got so spoilt that everything must be on one disk...? Does nobody remember the early PSOne days, when Final Fantasy games shipped on 3 and 4 disks...? Did that stop us having fun? The fact remains, you install it once and then either use the first disk or get a crack... Who cares how many disks its on, at least with the PC version. The 360 version changes disk once as you move over to another waste land half way in, but its not like Fallout 3, its not open world, its a classic progressive game. You wont be getting up and changing it every 5 mins, you will change it once...

Re: New id game
When you get into a game like WoW where the game and two expansions take up 10 disks...reinstalling is fucking annoying.
I've wanted bluray for a while so that I could start renting/burning in hd.

Re: New id game
They're not making files bigger on PC, they're making files smaller on XBox 360. They're probably compressing stuff further down or are using lower resolution textures or stuff like that so it can fit on 2 DVD's. The problem for id Software is not the number of DVD's the consumer ultimately gets in their hands, it's about the licensing costs Microsoft asks per DVD.o'dium wrote:Three on PC, where it can be compressed on the disk and then decompressed on the HDD, compared to two disks (Two wastelands) on the 360...?

Re: New id game
Actually Eraser, in the most recent interviews, id have said that they are making the game smaller without removing anything that would be vital to the gameplay, and chances are that while they previously said the game would look slightly worse on the 360 but only in areas you cant get too, it will now look the same over all three platforms.
Licencing per DVD is something to worry about sure, but games have shipped on 3, evn 4 DVD's on 360 already. The actual problem is a split point... Where do you split a game that has two wastelands of huge size... How can you split that in three...? THATS the issue... Don't moan at me, read the latest few interviews with Todd.

Installing off floppies

Shit I remember installing Windows 3 (or was that 3.1 - Please correct me here if I am wrong) off several floppies in a DOS screen

Those were the days
