Cop Jokes About Murder Victim Caught On Tape.

Post by CaseDogg »

"ERIE, Pa. (April 19) — A city police officer was suspended after someone posted to the Web a video of him, in a bar and apparently intoxicated, joking about a homicide victim.
In his profanity-laced rant, James Cousins II talks about the victim being shot in the forehead and his body lying outside a bar below a malt liquor sign that reads, "take it to the head." He laughs as he recounts seeing the dead man's leg twitch and the reaction of the victim's mother as she identifies him. Cousins also says he used his camera phone to take photos of the victim."

Or maybe that's just how he deals with such stressful situations. Can you honestly say how you'd act days later when recounting the sight of a murder scene?

On the other hand, though, taking pictures was fucking stupid.

You didn't post the good part of the story.
The family complained, and an internal investigation was started. The police interviewed the family about the incident. Guess who they sent along on the interview? Yup. The original asshole they filed a complaint about.

axbaby is right. We've all said and done some stupid shit that we regret. Unfortunately we live in an age where everyone and their dog has a recording device. Watch what ya say when someone has a camera on ya...

Wonder if the other interviewing cop was that annoying hooter hiding behind the meatstick in a hat at the bar and hag-cackling every five fucking minutes.

For some reason, I think if I was telling that story, and the dead guy was a cop, that cop wouldn't think it was so funny.

Odd how that works...

I think the indignation shown on the internets about stuff like this is interesting considering how often the internets make similar and even more tasteless comments.

Considering this didn't happen in public, wouldn't this audio recording be illegal?

Not saying the content is right or wrong..

How is a bar not public?

A bar is a private business.

You sure? As far as I know, around here anyway, it's only private if you're required to purchase a membership like a club membership.

The reason I say this is cause of the anti smoking laws that are in effect around these parts. If I go to a club, I can't smoke in the club because it's a public venue however, if I needed to buy a membership to enter the building then I would be allowed to smoke in the building (so long as the club allows it) and the city can't fine the club.

Do you think the Cop has an expectation of privacy in the bar?

The anti-smoking laws were just written that way to appease people that the gov't wasn't being too intrusive.

technically youre not allowed to randomly record people and make it public, unless youre part of the press, it has newsvalue, and/or is shorter than 30 secs.

so yes, its invasion of privacy.

Totally dependant on the country in question.

UK's definition of 'public place' differs to that of the US, for example. It's redefined from law-to-law, as well.

I think people can make any kind of tasteless remarks they want to. I, truly, believe in Freedom of Speech. I also believe that people should accept any consequence that comes along with it. Anything from bad press to a sock in the mouth. What Kracus is saying is the key, as far as I'm concerned. Most cops are hypocrites. There are some good cops... I've met one or two... who believe in what they are doing and want to make a positive impact on society. But they are in a minority. Cops see themselves as a completely different breed. They really don't care who you are or where you come from, as long as it serves their purpose, they will phuq with you. This vid shows that, in fact, they are no different than everyone else.

Phuq duh poe-leece!
