Windows defender updates

Post by DRuM »

I keep getting new updates for windows defender. I don't use defender so I always deselect the update and then I tick another box which says "don't notify me of these updates again". But it does, regularly! I'm not sure why it keeps notifying me. I blame ax.

DRuM i suggest ESET NOD32

you could try blocking the program with your firewall if it tries to auto-download but
unsure why your settings are ignored.

MAZDA check yourself.. this isn't Void

Thanks ax. I use AVG. Not sure if I need esetnod32 for this problem?

My firewall is pc tools firewall plus. Here's a screenshot. I wouldn't have a clue how to block specific updates such as the windows defender one, and I don't want to block all updates. Tbh, it's not a big problem if I can't stop it. It just means seeing the yellow shield in my taskbar and ticking a couple of boxes more often than I need.

DRuM .. sounds like Windows Defender is loaded at startup and i think you don't want it to.
un-install the program or stop it from loading at startup

download Advance Windows Care and remove Windows Defender from starting on boot

i highly recomend this program , it's really good for many things

Cheers ax. Couldn't find any instance of defender in my mscfg startup. I thought I'd uninstalled it ages ago but there it was, in my add remove programs. :o Removed now. Maybe that'll stop the updates. :)
