Well, that's good because it kinda distracts from the main topic, your texture pack. One more question, speaker. Did you use texture packs from other artists, like e.g. EvilLair? If you did, do you know under which license they were released and did you attribute them to their respective artists (as required by most share and share-alike licenses)? I ask partly because not everything copyleft is GPL-compatible.

Yea, that's why I killed this very popular show.^misantropia^ wrote:Well, that's good because it kinda distracts from the main topic, your texture pack.

I have used only parts of some of the textures from Evil Lair's packs. This is acknowledged in the 'credits' file accompanying the latest version of package. These textures have been copied from the 2.42 release of Nexuiz, they are distributed under the GPL version 2. I have explicitly asked them, see:One more question, speaker. I have not inquired further or demanded proof.
My position on GPL licensing is very different from leilol's. If someone releases stuff and states that it is licensed under the GPL I tend to trust his/her stipulation until proof to the contrary is presented ('innocent until proven guilty'). I admit that this attitude may cause some problems if later it turns out that the stuff is not GPL after all. I will have to spend (maybe a lot of) time to extirpate the offending material. However, I believe that this happens only in a very small fraction of the cases: people are mostly honest. And -- although IANAL -- I think that including such material cannot cause me serious legal problems if I can prove that I acted in good faith and I am willing to remove the material. So threatening someone with legal action from the FSF (as was done on the OA forum by you know who) is childish at best.

Just search any forum where leilol/leilolol/cheapalert/irafan can't delete whatever he wants for his posts. Then judge for yourself whether or not you want to work with that kind of people.

Re: Q3A texture pack (GPL)
I'm posting the link to the texture pack at Warsow forums. There are a few servers running q3 maps that will appreciate it. It would be better if I could post not a direct link, but a link to a page with the download link (so it doesn't die when/if a new update happens).
On the other topic:
If leilelol and cheapalert aren't the same person they are clones. And neither or them have any common sense.
Around 5 or 6 years ago CheapAlert started acusing Warsow of borrowing a song theme from qrally, something we proved false, since we were given the song by the author himself, and Warsow track had even twice the sampling rate and was longer than the one present at qrally.
That song was replaced by newer ones like 3 years ago, not because there was anything wrong with it, but because we didn't like the idea of having the same song that was used at another game. Leilelol (notice the name switch) is still today acusing Warsow of using an illegally borrowed song at every game forum he is still allowed to post (not many, fortunately).
He doesn't care about the legallity or illegality of contents. He's just a troll and only sees what he wants to see.

Re: Q3A texture pack (GPL)
Thank you! The next time a release is done I will try to arrange the download link as you suggested. I should have done this at the beginning.jal_ wrote:I'm posting the link to the texture pack at Warsow forums. There are a few servers running q3 maps that will appreciate it. BTW, missbehaving (aka chicken aka chiquita) and I are working on a new version, but don't hold your breath waiting for it yet.

Did missbehaving used to post here as Chiq (or is that someone else yet again)?

Re: Q3A texture pack (GPL)
IMO they are not the same person, but I don't know missbehaving personally so I cannot be sure. AFAIK missbehaving joined this forum at the time when I started to post here messages about the GPL texture pack (after we had both been kicked from the Openarena forumsobsidian wrote:Did missbehaving used to post here as Chiq (or is that someone else yet again)?

Re: Q3A texture pack (GPL)
No I am new here. The texture pak has since been updated, in fact, most if not all are done. I also done the map objects with my own photo's, just to be prove that no material is from any other source. Some of them I spent ages on, adapting faces to statues and trying to make them unique but close to the original. Some of them are a complete waste of time cos I seen one of the statues in q3dm1 and since the statues are so high you wouldn't even notice anything.obsidian wrote:Did missbehaving used to post here as Chiq (or is that someone else yet again)?
I also added some nice fx to the portals and teleporters, they are not very clear unless seen in game

The only important thing for the textures is to make sure the tga files have the black alpha thing so they are transparent..

btw.. this texture here is an example of how you can take one random image and just completely distort it and the detail of the texture will be good enough in game. You could spend ages on this guy, but is it really worth it? Often I miss or have never seen many of the textures I done. I done some really nice lava ones and you only see them below some grate.
Providing they are not plain as paint, and the colors match, you can do them all very quick. I think knowing the base maps are the most important thing. Alot of the times you can recognise them, like the one below... For anyone using gpl textures for gpl games are unlikely to see this poor guy anywhere except for q3dm7 remakes. Walls/floors/ceilings and probably most important.

I always said I did not want to manage this but I would continue to do the time consuming stuff.
leilol has been very quiet on the OA forums. Last I heard leilol felt so threatened that some noob contributers could make this game so amazing, yet find it difficult to that they would that they could not claim to take all the credit for it. So they are attempting to do them themselves, which is a real shame

and btw.. leilol often uses the get out of jail card 'these look fishy to me' without any further communication. Most new OA players (the desired ones) will just take their word for it. Many others just don't say anything, they know there's no point in posting their opinions

Re: Q3A texture pack (GPL)
How come the outlines of the original and the clone are identical? And also important, who is the babe? ;-)

Re: Q3A texture pack (GPL)
It's too difficult to tell if the babe is male or female... i've always referred to him/her as the dungeon dj. The outlines are identical because of my professional experience with mspaint

Re: Q3A texture pack (GPL)
Is there any new download of this pack? I use parts of this in my Q3Rally Mod. With full credits of course. :-)

Re: Q3A texture pack (GPL)
I am glad that you find it useful. As for updates: Probably there will not be another release. The reason is that we are working on a completely new, freely distributable (GPL) Q3 package and the texture pack will be an integrated part of this new distro. The reason behind this is that we realized that there was no hope the Openarena developers (read: leilol) would ever accept and integrate our texture pack into Openarena. So we decided to ditch OA and make our own minimal Quake III Arena package. The aim of this package is to provide a minimal Q3A distro capable of supporting game play on custom maps made for the original Quake III Arena from id.Perle wrote:Is there any new download of this pack? This new package (called Q3MIN) is now ready. I have taken the original pak0.pk3 from the official release of id Software and completely replaced the artwork in it (textures, models, graphics, scripts) using freely distributable GPL material. A lot of this stuff came from Openarena, and I also used the textures, models and shaders from our replacement texture pack, as well as sounds created by chiquita. It is all documented in the package archive. The engine is based on ioquake3 (version 1.35, revision 1438).
If you are interested in the details, please, register at Rainbow Network (http://rainbow.furver.se) and see the topic 'Redo OA?' in the forum 'Mod and Game Development'. The latest version of Q3MIN can be downloaded here:
http://freeq3.com/data/q3min-v063.zip
Give it a try. The archive is only about 90 MB and contains everything you need for playing on custom maps. I have tested about 40 maps (downloaded from LvL) and all run w/o any problem out of the box. The package at present provides client and server executables for Win32 and a dedicated server for Linux.

Donwloaded it and it is a cool thing. Reduced to the important things. Nice. If you guys would like it i could provide a download on my website like this.
1. Q3Rally
2. Q3Rally with Q3Min Package
3. Q3Min
How this would be?

Re: Q3A texture pack (GPL)
Thanks for the offer, it would be nice. Of course, Q3MIN is publicly available under the GPL so you don't have to get permission from anybody for distribution. You are free to put it up to your WEB site if you wish. But please make sure that you regularly check the 'freeq3.com' site for updates so that you always have the latest version.Perle wrote:... When I have a little time maybe I will establish a mailing list for people who would like to get notification when a new release comes out. I will let you know.
