Building new gaming PC suggestions?
I've not dealt with gaming PCs in quite some time and am out of the loop on this stuff.
Assuming I only need the basics (no monitor, speakers, keyboard and mouse, DVD drive, network card) how much money would I need to have for a pretty good gaming PC these days?
Also, should I perhaps wait until the next line-up of graphics cards since it has been a year since nVidia and ATI have introduced cards? Also considering the arrival of DirectX 11 and Windows 7 very soon I may just wait?

My humble yet practical 3 suggestions are:
1. Wait for the inflation to converge.
2. Wait for a few years and you'll lost interest because noone is online for AffordableGamesULTRA.
3. Wait for no reason till you forget about it completely.

You can always play the waiting game and there will always be the "next thing" that you'll end up waiting for. Any hardware currently running on the market (and even older stuff) will run Windows 7 perfectly fine. I'm running the RC on an Intel Atom netbook with integrated GMA 3100 graphics. Both nVidia and ATI just released their new GPUs on a die-shrink so it will likely be quite a few months before you see a new product release (at which point, they'll be overpriced anyway).
For an Intel Quad Core with motherboard, nVidia GTX 275, 4GB RAM, PSU, hard drive and case, should run you about $700. That's a pretty good bang-for-buck mid-range computer, but how much you want to spend is subjective to your needs. I spent about $1500 (CND) recently on a much higher spec'ed computer, though that's probably overkill if you're just using your computer for gaming.

And here's a $4200 computer:

You should really do some research on your own. That's the only way to know exactly what you're getting and what components will work together. It sucks, because it seems like the only time a person reads up on this stuff is when they want to make a purchase and by the time you're ready to do it again everything has changed.

Wait till there are some games you need to upgrade for, then tailor the PC's specs to those games. Games you want to play, not just high tech stuff to show off your system.

He's right. Terrible, terrible advice.
Just buy the best PC Dell has to offer. That should run whatever you can throw at it.

I seriously don't know if you're being sarcastic or just being stupid. I hope not the latter.xer0s wrote:Just buy the best PC Dell has to offer.

I gave the best advice in this thead. There's is nothing better than doing the research and knowing your purchase.
Re: Building new gaming PC suggestions?
yes but most people are not, or care not to be so technically inclined.
He is looking for general well known FYI's, which usually come up in threads like this, but apparently the days of clear and indisputable choices are not as established in today's market as they used to be at some point. Which is great for the market, but not so great for choice making.
