Windows 7

Post by Foo »

First day of running the release candidate on a Samsung NC10. So far so good.

- Detected the native resolution correctly (1024*768). The extra taskbar height wasn't so welcome, but you can shrink it to about the same size as XP's.
- Looks and feels just like Vista. Will be interesting what kind of charges they levy againsts upgrades from Vista to 7. Word is that there's no upgrade route from XP.
- Aero runs just fine despite low ram and crappy integrated graphics.
- Picked up almost all the hardware (except the wired network card) without loading any drivers.

So looking good. Unless I hit any real show-stoppers this will remain my weapon of choice until it stops working next year.

Anyone else running the RC?

Yes, runs fine on a netbook. I've been using it since some of the beta builds. UAC has been toned down to be less intrusive. Haven't tried running XP virtualization mode yet.

The only showstopper will be the price. It has been mentioned by Microsoft partners that the price will be even more expensive than Vista, making it the priciest Windows OS to date. WTF Microsoft? Crumbling economy and Vista backlash mean anything to you?

Heh, it's probably more economical to purchase an MSDN subscription for 3 years than it is to buy Windows and Office. Plus you get updates mailed out to you, and all the other MS goodies to play with.

U dumb? I mean I'll wait for it to receive a service pack and then I'll think about torrenting it.

Was that so hard for you to understand? :dork:

I'm talking about the official release, not a RC.

Good grief.

It's too easy to filter out the viruses in a torrent. Even a n00b like me knows THAT.

sheesh

Back to work today on XP and got cravings for 7.

They must be doing something right.
