I'm gonna go see that movie, because yer review is indicative of an awesome movie experience. I'm just sayin... Do you really think it's better than Star Trek? Okay. I'm there.
See the movie for yourself before looking like an idiot.

You either think cinematography is just lens selection or you don't know what bold means.

I know what it means. If you'd have said "intense" and "nervy" I might have not visualized an Eaton Freshman talking about his new roomie.

Bold. Quite. All in all, and at the end of the day, a good show old chap.

I just wanna know two things...

Is Sarah Connor's voice tacked on so badly it stands out shes just there as a cheap ass cameo...?

And is Arnie REALLY stupid looking as a CGI head...?

Taken - 7/10. not much to it and it's pretty contrived, but at least it doesn't get all michael bay and pretend to be about something. just a guy (who happens to be a bad-ass CIA field agent. riiiiight...) whose daughter gets nabbed and he kills half of paris to get her back. good acting, good action, and the director stayed out of the way. the end.

Terminator Salvation: 8/10
GONNAFISTYA wrote:Terminator Salvation = 6.5/10 - Great action sequences, bold cinematography and absolutely spectacular audio design. Since this is obviously set up to be a series of movies the overall plot really suffered from the "humanizing" story of the newest Terminator model. They should have just stuck with a straightforward war flick and it would have totally blown me away.
Slightly agreed. I was looking forward to full 'resistance vs machines' war scenes but I guess they're saving that for T5 where everyone has pew-pew laser rifles.

It was a lot better than I expected, obviously no T2 but definitely better than T3. Bale was excellent as Connor and I actually liked the Marcus Wright storyline. It brought something new to the table.

I think it's because my girlfriend is Asian, but that chick who played Blair is gorgeous

1. The voice is fine.
2. CGI Arnold looks like his Pumping Iron/Conan days, pretty funny though.
3. Eat shit.

Tropic Thunder again, and again i was struck by the love/hate people have for Ben Stiller movies. Of the two people I watched it with one was in continuous fits of laughter and the other pretty much got bored with it early on. Peculiar.

The DVD has nice extra's btw, lots of behind the stage stuff, funny bullshit and very long clips of how certain scenes came to be; for instance just Downey and Stiller improvising on hilarious bits of dialogue and in the end coming up with something that ended up in the movie.

Ax I got to ask here, really shite?

I did get it on the net somewhere/somehow with Chinese subtitles but (truthfully) I haven't seen it :smirk:

I ask 'cause I was considering (investing the the $2 or $3 for a late release (AUD$) video here atm) watching in the privacy (no not piracy) of my own home.

I appreciate you're still in f'king Africa (draws parallel  ) but really 4/10 :?:

Do I make a special trip to my local video store and hire a copy?

if you had 'the day the earth stood still' delivered to your house on blueray for free, it still wouldn't be worth watching.

Got rag? Will huff?

The "Marcus Wright storyline brought something new to the table"???

WTF?? What....the storyline that a machine can come to understand the human condition and relate to us? That a Terminator can fight it's internal programming (to kill the protagonist) and prevail...leaving John Connor to survive......once again?

:olo:

I guess you missed the end of T2 (and perhaps the end of T3) while you were busy fitting your 1st grade pirate costume.

The overarching plot that "man and machine can overcome their differences and work together for peace" is old and worn out in this franchise. Enough with the touchy, feely toasters and bring on the fucking bloodbath that is war. And don't spare the explosions one bit for some hom0 who brought Kleenex to the theatre. He can wait for T6.

The actual Terminators in this series (like the Predators and the Giger Aliens of old) haven't been fear-inducing in over 20 years. It's time to bring THAT aspect of the franchise back, IMHO.

Arlington Road = 8/10 - Starts off good, lulls for 30 minutes and then resumes the goodness right to the end.

Go0f and his tinfoil hat would enjoy it.

haven't seen the latest terminator, but gonnafistya has a point. Terminators are supposed to be fucking scary. The best terminator imo was the first - it was like a serial killer movie. Disturbed the viewer.

maybe it was coz i was younger also...

Gran Torino -- 7/10 --Clint Eastwood at his best .. Dirty Harry at 80 .. shame that they couldn't find Asian's and blackazoid's that could actually act.
they lost a point for that.

They changed quite a lot of details from the book, but that actually turned out to the better in the end. Simple entertainment, nothing else.
Got to agree there Grudge

Saw it this afternoon. Simple entertainment, nothing else :smirk:

I'd give perhaps a 7/10 but only 'cause of Tom and a couple of other minor actors performances.
I'm tempted to say this was 8/10 in my head, but that extra point comes from me being so pleasantly surprised that the movie plot was completely different from the implied trailer plot (moment of creation bollocks).
Besides the whole anti-matter nonsense, an enjoyable entertaining romp :P

True Blood Season 1 - 8/10

ok so not really a movie but it was on HBO so close enough. I was suprised at how much i enjoyed watching this. I like how its not JUST vampires hiding amongst humans or vampires vs. insert-other-myth-creature-here. they were able to touch bases on a bunch of things which creates a quirky fun show to watch. oh, and the T&A is a plus

Terminator: Salvation 7/10

Had some really spectacular "termination" bits, but it really felt like a more serious version of Transformers. Megan Fox could have moved this movie up to an 8/10, but she's nowhere to be found.

Up - 8.5/10

Pixar delivers a brilliant children's movie that probably has more to offer to the adult audience rather than the kids.

Incredibly touching with great imagination and riddled with a few laughs.

Terminator salvation... fitting title of 'salvation' considering the ENTIRE movie was salvaged from scenes and dialogue from T1 and T2. FUcking pathetic. This movie put it on par with the back to the future trilogy as far as intermovie references go. yes, it's that bad and noticeable if you're a big a fan of the terminator series as I am.
