I have a free VPS server from work, so it really won't cost anything.

I'm going to be moving the database to the new server regardless, even if we don't secure the q3w domain. It will look and feel exactly the same, just wouldn't be called q3w. Hopefully they'll be willing to work with us regarding the domain name though.

If we don't get the domain name, the bright side is that it will give us an opportunity to expand our tiny community where it would be impossible to do so with IGN and being shackled to the official quake 3 community status.

We wouldn't really even need to keep it Quake 3 focused, we can do whatever the fuck we want. I think I'm for keeping it Quake related, but I will probably make a thread asking for opinions later on since this is OUR site.

I think most of the rules are going to stay the same, some people like browsing while at work.

If we were to go crazy and reinvent this site, the guideline to follow would be that it can't alienate parts of our existing community, and it must remain focused. This ain't the Forumzzzz. The only way to do this in my mind would be keeping it much like it is now. If there are any ideas out there that aren't stupid, prepare them for later.

one of my concerns is being able to get a steady stream of newcomers to the site. people are always going to slowly leave a forum, but having the quake name allowed us to get people to come by. even if some of thsoe newbies were very peenyuh-ish, i think its pretty necessary to have newcomers in order to keep the forum (somewhat) vibrant.
