I ignored the birds today and crawled around in the grass till I got a fellow that was willing to sit still while I got focus.
An immature leaf hopper, or a baby, if you will.
Found my sensor needs cleaning as I had to clone out a lot of dust bunny's. :(

No PP done, out of camera only :)

Seems the Macro bug got a hold of me again as I was sitting on my porch and just admiring the sunset and the cool weather. Mostly I was contemplating on the next mow and what I needed to do around the yard as some spots don't get mowed due to fencing and trash cans and what not. Then I noticed the Johnson Grass near my trash cans had grown asshole deep next to them. Just a few sprigs but enough to make one grimace.

Then I noticed little yellow things hanging off of them. I walked over and gave a closer inspection and said "Wow, I never seen this shit before."
As the light outside was failing I grabbed my trusty homemade diffuser and slapped it on and my tripod as the wind was next to nill, I then set for exposure and ISO to get this.

Yes I again had to "Heal" my dust bunny's, and I did add a little bit of sharpening to this one.....

finally managed to get an interesting critter within 200mm range... muntjacs come into my back yard fairly regularly (i live near an area of woodland) but usually scoot off before i can grab my camera. this one hung around, and being nervous, even helpfully froze now and again at some sound or other so i could a few shots actually in focus through the kitchen window (if there are any dust bunnies/smears, it's the window not my sensor):

Wow....seems I do know what I'm talking about huh? The focus on this is visibly better compared to your last shots, except for the landing shot which was absolutely beautiful, However........

I see you still feel the need for a super fast shutter speed when in reality, a perched bird like this image does not require, thus allowing you to stop down on the ISO to say 400 or less, thus dropping more of the noise that you complain of, which is highly noticeable in the humming bird shot.

I'm willing to bet you could have slowed down your shutter speed too, to about 250 and still able to shoot at ISO 100 and still get a dammed good shot even at F/9, the trick tho, is to shoot in RAW, watch your Histogram to make sure you don't lose any detail. If the bar falls off to the left you have lots of detail loss, which hampers you in raw when you "Manually" fix the exposure by adjusting in DPP.

I guess it is here I should ask, do you look at your histogram to know how far to the left or right you are for details? Do you shoot in RAW? and, Do you use the DPP program supplied with your camera?

If the answer is no to any of these, I suggest you give it a go.
I shoot in RAW only. I look at histograms, I use DPP to convert to jpeg and do raw editing because CS2 can't read the 50D raw images, and there is no support for it in CS2, even with the updates...fucking adobe. The fast shutter is because I have no tripod ring for the gigantic lens I am using, its all handheld. Trying to minimize camera shake with a Sigma 50-500 is a pain in the ass - I've found that those higher shutter speeds are the only way I can seem to alleviate it. I need a good tripod and a monopod maybe as well, and a tripod ring for the borrowed lens.

I will sell prints for the amazingly low price of $15 each. Just give me your CC information and you can stare at it all day on your wall.

In seriousness, I was amazed at what some people charge for small 5x7 or 8x10 prints of their work. Some very uninspired and boring shots with a very high price.

Anyone here ever sold a print (I'm guessing FX has sold a lot of them...).

Oh and I am a published sports photographer now.

If your post processing don't see raw, save as tiff, then do as you wish. Then save as jpeg. I wish I had your problem of a "Huge Lens"

I would make you cry.

Yes, they are cropped.

Also, the huge lens isn't mine.

National Geographic? LOL

I enjoy wildlife photos when there's some action involved.

I lured this fucker close with some feed and then chased it until it took off...

You should get hold of a copy of Adobe Lightroom considering it's extremely good for cataloguing/processing files and cheaper than Photoshop CS4. It also works with Photoshop (not entirely sure about CS2 though) so it's easy to take files into Photoshop, do something with them, then have them sent straight back into Lightroom (but 99% of the time you'll have no need for Photoshop as this does it all).
